Women’s Soccer to Host Saint Martin’s and Simon Fraser to Begin 2025 Season

TURLOCK, Calif. — Stanislaus State Women's Soccer kicks off its 2025 regular season this weekend with two crucial NCAA Division II West Region match-ups at Warrior Stadium. The Warriors will face Saint Martin's on Thursday, September 4 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a match against Simon Fraser on Sunday, September 7 at 12:30 p.m.

Recapping the 2024 Season
The Warriors wrapped up the 2024 season with a 10-8-2 overall record and secured their third consecutive berth in the CCAA Women's Soccer Championships, the 11th in program history. Head coach Gabriel Bolton returns a strong core of 22 letter-winners from last year's roster. Leading the group is Aliah Avila, a D2CCA All-American and the reigning CCAA Midfielder of the Year. She is joined by fellow All-CCAA honorees Shauna Johnston, Jocelin Roa, and Makeila Yancey.

Avila tallied nine goals and four assists in 2024, finishing second nationally with seven game-winning goals. Her scoring run included four consecutive matches with game-winners, one of which came in a 2-0 victory over defending national champion Cal Poly Pomona. Roa added five goals and two assists, while Yancey contributed two goals and one assist. Johnston found the net twice, with both goals being decisive game-winners.

Following Thursday's match, fans will have an opportunity to meet the Warriors and get their 2025 schedule posters autographed by the players and coaching staff. On Sunday, it will be Sno Cone Day.  All children in attendance can get a free sno cone..

2025 Home Schedule
Stanislaus State will play ten regular season matches at Warrior Stadium. In addition to this weekend's games, the Warriors will host Hawai'i Hilo on September 10 at 7:00 p.m., Menlo on September 13 at 7:00 p.m., UC Merced on September 28 at 6:00 p.m., Cal State East Bay on October 3 at 7:00 p.m., Cal State Los Angeles on October 5 at 2:00 p.m., Cal State San Marcos on October 29 at 11:30 a.m., Chico State on October 24 at 7:00 p.m., and San Francisco State on November 2 at 11:30 a.m.

2025 Road Matches
The Warriors will also play eight matches on the road. They begin away competition at Biola University on September 20 at noon, followed by a trip to Westmont College on September 25 at 12:30 p.m. The remainder of their road schedule includes conference matchups at Cal State San Bernardino on October 10, No. 1 Cal Poly Pomona on October 12, Cal Poly Humboldt on October 17, Cal State Monterey Bay on October 26, Cal State Dominguez Hills on October 31, and UC Merced on November 6.

CCAA Preseason Poll Outlook
In the 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Poll, Stan State was projected to finish in a tie for third place alongside Cal State Los Angeles. The opening round of the CCAA Women's Soccer Championships is set for Sunday, November 9, hosted by the higher seed. The top two seeds will earn first-round byes, with semifinals and finals taking place November 14 and 16 at Cardinale Stadium in Seaside, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay. The tournament champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Academic Excellence for the Warriors
The Warriors continue to thrive off the field, having been named a 2024-25 United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award recipient for the 19th consecutive year. Aliah Avila, Kayla Perez, and Makeila Yancey were honored on the Academic All-District Team by the Collegiate Sports Communicators. Eleven student-athletes earned recognition on the CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll, while 19 were named to the CCAA All-Academic Team. Additionally, eight players—Avila, Malia Allen, Haylee Heffner, Kaia Mills, Alexi Ochoa, Ycela Ochoa, Kayla Perez, and Yancey—were inducted into the inaugural class of the Stan State chapter of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. Twelve Warriors also received D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards.

Scouting Saint Martin's
Saint Martin's concluded the 2024 season with a 3-13-3 record and went 3-8-3 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Saints, under first-year head coach Scott Ford, return key players Eve Charles, Hinate Kojima, and Keilee Silva. Charles and Kojima each scored two goals last season, while Silva started 16 of 18 matches. Stan State holds a 3-0-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 3-1 win in Lacey, Washington, last year, with goals from Roa, Avila, and Haylee Heffner. This week's match marks the first time the two teams will meet in Turlock.

Simon Fraser at a Glance
Simon Fraser posted a 14-4-3 overall record in 2024 and went 8-3-3 in GNAC action. The Red Leafs captured the 2024 GNAC Tournament title with a 1-0 win over Western Washington before falling 2-1 to No. 20 Point Loma Nazarene in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. In the 2025 GNAC Coaches' Preseason Poll, Simon Fraser was picked to finish second and received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. They return standout goalkeeper Sarah Loewen, a First Team All-GNAC selection who recorded eight shutouts and posted a 0.74 goals-against average with an .843 save percentage. Also returning is GNAC Freshman of the Year Dariella Lopez, who scored seven goals and averaged 1.06 points per match. Stan State leads the all-time series 5-1, though the Red Leafs snapped the Warriors' five-match win streak in 2024 with a 2-0 win in Canada. The Warriors previously won the 2019 meeting in Turlock 1-0, thanks to a goal from Ilena Rivera.
