Warriors Rise to No. 2 Nationally in Latest United Soccer Coaches Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo.--- The Stanislaus State men's soccer team continues to make history, climbing to No. 2 in this week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II national poll released Tuesday (Oct. 14). This is the third time that the Warriors have been ranked second in the nation this season, as the Warriors extended their unbeaten start to 9-0-1. Stanislaus State is one of only ten unbeaten teams remaining in NCAA Division II men's soccer and is tied for first nationally in winning percentage (.905) with Young Harris College (9-0-1).
Stanislaus State now ranks No. 2 nationally, marking the highest placement in program history, and continues to anchor the West Region's presence on the national stage. The Warriors are one of five teams from the West Region either ranked or receiving votes, with Point Loma at No. 11, Cal State Los Angeles at No. 15, Cal Poly Pomona at No. 25, and Cal State Dominguez Hills receiving votes.
Now riding a 10-match unbeaten streak, Stanislaus State has stood in the national Top 20 for five consecutive weeks, climbing from No. 3 last week to its new all-time high of No. 2.
The Warriors also continue to dominate the regional picture, leading the latest United Soccer Coaches West Region poll for the fifth straight week. Rounding out the Oct. 14 West Region top 10 are Point Loma (6-2-1) at No. 2, Cal State Los Angeles (6-1-4) at No. 3, Cal Poly Pomona (5-2-4) at No. 4, Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-2-3) at No. 5, Seattle Pacific (6-2-3) at No. 6, Cal State San Bernardino (6-2-3) at No. 7, Menlo (7-3-0) at No. 8, Vanguard (0-0-0) at No. 9, and Concordia Irvine (5-4-1) at No. 10.
Stanislaus State has outscored opponents 23–7 this season, averaging 2.3 goals per match while allowing just 0.7. The Warriors have recorded five shutouts and remain undefeated on the road (5-0-0). Senior goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez anchors a stingy defense with a 0.70 goals-against average and an .829 save percentage, while offensively, Gerardo Flores and Emmanuel Duran share the team lead with six goals each. Samuel Villanueva continues to power the attack with a team-high seven assists.
Nationally, the Warriors rank among the top programs in multiple NCAA Division II statistical categories. Stanislaus State sits sixth in assists per game, eighth in goal differential, 12th in points per game, tied for second in save percentage, 15th in scoring offense and shutout percentage, 12th in goals-against average, seventh in total assists, 20th in total goals, 13th in total points, and tied for first in winning percentage (.905). Individually, Samuel Villanueva ranks fourth nationally in both assists per game and total assists. Adrian Yepez is 19th in total assists and 23rd in assists per game. Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez ranks 15th in save percentage, 18th in shutouts, and 20th in goals-against average. Forward Gerardo Flores is eighth in the nation in game-winning goals.
Within the CCAA, Flores leads in total points and game-winners, Duran is tied for first in goals, and Villanueva sits atop the assists leaderboard. Ruiz-Hernandez ranks second in the league in goals-against average, save percentage, and shutouts.
The first NCAA Division II West Region rankings will be released on October 29 with the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship Selection Show set for November 17 at 7:00 p.m. PT on www.ncaa.com.
The Warriors continue CCAA play this weekend, visiting Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m., before returning home to host Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. Prior to Sunday's match, the Warriors will recognize their seniors — Angel Ruiz-Hernandez, Federico Barbieri, Ian Reis, Landon Leal Ruiz, Ryan Rosas, Samuel Villanueva, and Anthony Sanchez — for their outstanding contributions to the program.
