Warriors’ Track & Field Continues Their Season in the Bay Area
TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will continue their respective seasons this weekend in the Bay Area. The Warriors will have student-athletes competing in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic (San Francisco, Calif.), Stanford Invitational (Stanford, Calif.), and Brutus Hamilton Invitational (Berkeley, Calif.) this Thursday-Saturday, April 3-5.
BAY AREA: Stan State will start its weekend on Thursday sending Alfred Nunes to the Brutus Hamilton Invitational to compete in the Multis in Berkeley. Tanner Gerhart and Makenzie Kordic will go to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State.
Friday, the Warriors will be at the Stanford Invitational, Brutus Hamilton Invitational, and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Stan State will have its throwers, hurdlers, sprinters, and some of the distance runners at Stanford. Alfred
Nunes will be finishing in weekend in the multis at the Brutus Hamilton. At the Track Classic, the Warriors will have their distance runners competing during Friday.
To finish off the weekend on Saturday, Stan State will compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley.
WEST COAST RELAYS IN REVIEW: Stan State had several outstanding performances last week at the West Coast Relays in Clovis, Calif. Three Warriors recorded NCAA Division II provisional times this afternoon in Clovis, Calif. Trent Lauderdale ran a time of 51.21 to finish first in the 400-hurdles. Annie Wild now has the 16th fastest time in the nation with her time of 2:10.37. Mila Real captured the 400-hurdles with her provisional time of 1:01.27, which is the 18th fastest time in the nation. The men's 4x400 relay team of Levi Gardner, Jemar Armstrong, Trent Lauderdale, and Dillon Carolina ran a 3:16.27 to capture the West Coast Relays. Yahaira Zuniga captured the 5000-meter run with her time of 17:23.90.
The men's 4x100 relay team ran a 41.68 to finish second at the West Coast Relays. That team consisted of Eris Hutchins, Jaheim Williams, Jaevin Sawyer, and Trent Lauderdale. Tessa Vasquez ran a 4:35.08 to finish second in the 1500-meter run. Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva ran a 17:43.42 to finish in second in the 5000-meter run while Jackson Oliveira ran a 14:33.60 to finish second in the 5000-meter run.
TRIO OF PROVISIONAL QUALIFIERS: After this past weekend's West Coast Relays, the Warriors have three student-athletes that have provisionally qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 22-24, at Pueblo, Colo. Trent Lauderdale ran a time of 51.21 in the 400-hurdles to move into first place in the nation. Annie Wild ran a 2:10.37 in the 800-meter run and she is now 16th in the nation. Wild 's time is the fastest in the CCAA. In the women's 400-hurdles, Mila Real ran a provisional time of 1:01.27 which is the 18th fastest time in the nation and second in the CCAA.
RECORD BOOKS: Thirteen Stan State student-athletes are in the Warrior Top Ten lists in twelve events. Rionna Wallace is second in the 100 (11.78) and third in the 200 (24.75). Mila Real is second in the 400 hurdles (1:01.27) and seventh in the 100 hurdles (15.00). Jaevin Sawyer is fifth in the 100 (10.782) and seventh in the 200 (21.67). Trent Lauderdale is third in the 400 hurdles (51.21) and is part of the 4x100 relay team with Eris Hutchins, Jaheim Williams, and Sawyer that are fifth with their time of 41.34. Three Warriors are in the top ten in the 5000-meter run in Jackson Oliveira (sixth, 14:33.60), Tanner Gerhart (ninth, 14:35.23), and Dominic Robles (tenth, 14:36.10). Three are in the top ten in the javelin in Joshua Shimoda (seventh, 170-8), Cole Bailey (ninth, 157-10), and Justice McDermott (tenth, 156-4). Yahaira Zuniga is sixth in the 5,000 with her time of 17:16.25. Annie Wild has a time of 2:10.37 which places her seventh in the 800-meter run.
TOP FIVE IN THE CCAA: Fifteen Stan State student-athletes have recorded top five times/marks in 16 events in the CCAA heading into this weekend. Five Warriors have recorded the best times or marks in the conference. Trent Lauderdale (400 hurdles, 51.21), Annie Wild (800, 2:10.37), Tessa Vasquez (1500, 4:35.08), Lamont Lane (hammer, 182-11), and Alexis Nino (hammer, 172-3). Lauderdale is a member on two Stan State relay teams that are in the top five. The 4x400 relay team of Levi Gardner, Jemar Armstrong, Dillon Carolina and Lauderdale are third (3:16.27). Stan State's 4x100 relay team of Eris Hutchins, Jaevin Sawyer, Jaheim Williams, and Lauderdale are fourth (41.34).
Mila Real is second in the 400 hurdles (1:01.27) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.00). Real is a member of two relay teams that are in the top seven in the CCAA. The 4x100 team is fourth (48.27), which consists of Real, Shaylynn Wynn, Rionna Wallace, and Reyna Dismukes. The 4x400 relay team of Wynn, Dismukes, Wallace, and Real are seventh (3:59.24). Besides being first in the hammer, Nino is third in the shot put (41-15). Wallace is third in the 100 (11.78) and fourth in the 200 (24.75). Crystal Hernandez's time of 4:35.95 in the 1500 places her third. Carolina has a time of 14.81 in the 110 hurdles which is the fourth fastest time in the conference.
Yahaira Zuniga is fifth in the 5000-meter with her time of 17:16.75. Cole Bailey is fourth int eh hammer with his throw of 173-11. Fifth in the javelin is Joshua Shimoda (170-8).
UP NEXT: After this weekend, Stan State is off for a week. The Warriors will return to competition in Southern California April 17-19. They will compete in the Cal State Los Angeles Invite, LaVerne Invite, and Bryan Clay Invite during those three days.
2024-25 CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS: For the second year in a row, the CCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Stanislaus State at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium. This year's championships will be take place, May 1-3.
