History

POMONA, Calif.---The Stan State Warriors (20-7, 12-6 CCAA) played in the CCAA Championship Tournament quarterfinals tonight, facing the sixth seed Cal State East Bay (13-14, 8-10 CCAA). The Warriors were victorious, winning the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18). This marks the first season Stan State has earned 20 wins in a season since 1989; head coach Lauren Flowers now has the fourth most wins of any Stan State volleyball coach.

FIRST SET: The Warriors got out to a quick 2-0 with two kills from Ellison Weaver. Cal State East Bay took the lead on a five-point run, taking the score to 15-13, but Stan State's timeout proved useful. Two kills from both Ellison Weaver and Makenna Carrillo helped close out the set 25-21 in Stan State's favor.

SECOND SET: Malia Tanksley and Makenna Carrillo opened the third set for the Warriors, taking the lead 8-5. The Pioneers stayed close for a time, even tying the score, but kills from Makenna Carrillo, Isabella Saucedo, and Alex Byrd ensured Stan State stayed in the lead, taking the set 25-21.

THIRD SET: Stan State led the third set 9-2 before Cal State East Bay called a timeout. Makenna Carrillo continued to find the floor, keeping the Warriors ahead even with a few hitting errors. Isabella Saucedo also secured three kills to aid Stan State in winning the set and match 25-18.

SENIORS SHINE: Ellison Weaver led the team with 12 kills, served up three aces, had eight digs, and recorded a solo block. Isabella Saucedo recorded 10 kills and seven digs, playing both sides of the ball well. Makenna Carrillo also had a good night, recording nine kills and combing for a block as well. Alex Byrd hit .333 tonight with 6 kills, adding two blocks with one being solo. Gabby Rawson played strong defense with 26 digs, plus three service aces and seven assists.

SETTING DUO: Haley Burdo and Shaelyn Pruiett performed well tonight, with Pruiett being just short of a double-double with 16 assists and nine digs. Haley Burdo's 18 assists and 10 kills make seven double-doubles for her this season.

NCAA TOURNAMENT: The conference tournament winners will advance to the NCAA DII Championship, with the rest of the field coming from at-large bids. The West region is made up of the PacWest, GNAC, and CCAA conferences, meaning there will be five at-large bids for the region. The NCAA selection show will be air Monday, November 25th at 4:30 p.m. on the NCAA website.

UP NEXT: The Warriors play in the semifinals tomorrow, Friday, November 21st, facing San Francisco State. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Previously, Stan State has lost to San Francisco State this year in both meetings (October 5 and November 2), with the Gators taking both matches 3-0.
