Baseball Pounds Out 21 hits and Score 16 Runs to Take Series Opener 16-8
HAYWARD, Calif.--- Stan State had six players with multiple-hit games to key its 16-8 series opener 16-8 victory at Cal State East Bay. The Warriors scored 15 of their 16 runs in the first five innings to key its win over the Pioneers. Flavio Perez had a five-hit game while Alex Solis drove in five runs including four on a grand slam home run. Danny Murphy also had five runs batted in for the victors. Quinn Oliver recorded the win in the start for the guests.
Luke Brown hit a two-out two-run home run to give Cal State East Bay (16-23, 12-17 CCAA) the early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Stan State tied the game at 2-2 with a two-run second inning. Flavio Perez had a lead-off single, went to third on a one-out double by Jonluke Goldman. Perez scored the Warriors' first run on a Danny Murphy sacrifice fly. Jacob
Baker hit a two-out triple to bring in Goldman with the game's tying run.
The guests took a 6-2 lead after a four-run third inning. Luke Davies drew a one-out walk and stole second. Arthur Navarette Jr. singled to place runners on first and second. Davies scored on an Alex Solis single. The Warriors took a 4-2 lead on a Goldman single that brough in Navarette. Goldman stole second. With two outs, Murphy singled home Solis and Goldman as the Warriors took a 6-2 lead.
Stan State (15-22, 10-17 CCAA) doubled its lead to 10-2 with a four-run fourth inning. Ryan Leonesio had a lead-off single. He went to second when Robert Valdivia reached on an error. They each advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Luke Davies. They scored on a one-out two-run single by Perez. With two outs, Perez advanced to third on Alex Solis' 50th career double. Goldman was hit by pitch to load the bases. The Warriors took a 10-2 lead on a two-out two-run single by Murphy which scored Perez and Solis.
For the fourth straight inning, the Warriors scored a crooked number this time five runs to increase their lead to 15-2. Leonesio and Valdivia had back-to-back singles to begin the fifth. They advanced a base on Davies' second sacrifice bunt of the game. Navarette was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Perez drove home Leonesio had a single to center field. With one out, Solis hit a grand slam home run to left field to give the guests a 15-2 lead.
Cal State East Bay scored a run in its half of the fifth to cut the Warrior lead to 15-3. The Pioneers added five runs in the seventh capped by a two-out three-run home run by Danelle Daniels to cut the deficit to 15-8.
Stan State scored its 16th run in the ninth. Goldman had a lead-off single, went to third when Murphy and Baker each reached on Pioneer errors. Leonesio drove home Goldman with a single to increase the guests' lead to 16-8. Patrick Sweeney held the hosts scoreless in the bottom of the ninth as Stan State took the series opener 16-8.
21/16: The Warriors had 21 hits in today's 16-8 victory. This was the third time this season that Stan State had 20 hits or more. Earlier this season, the Warriors had 23 hits in their 15-4 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on March 2 at home. This is the second time this season that Stan State has scored 16 runs. The first came in its 16-11 win over San Francisco State on March 29 at home.
SIX: Six Stan State hitters had multiple-hit games led by Flavio Perez who went five-for-six with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Alex Solis went three-for-five with five runs batted in, three runs scored, a double, and a grand slam home run. Danny Murphy went three-for-five and drove in five runs. Jonluke Goldman and Ryah Leonesio each had three hits and drove in a run. Goldman scored three times, had a stolen base, and a double. Leonesio scored two runs. Robert Valdivia had two hits in his at bats while scoring two runs.
FIRST WIN: Quinn Oliver had his first victory of the season this afternoon and his second as a Warrior. Patrick Sweeney pitched two scoreless innings of relief, while giving up four hits and striking out two.
MOVIN' ON UP: Alex Solis now has 50 career doubles as a Warrior which is the record at Stan State in the NCAA DII ERA. Solis is now third with 190 hits, tied for fifth with 102 runs scored, and eighth with 93 runs batted in. Robert Valdivia is sixth with 157 hits and Flavio Perez is seventh with 156 hits.
UP NEXT: Stan State continues its series with Cal State East Bay with a noon starting doubleheader tomorrow, Friday, April 18. The two teams will conclude the series this Saturday, April 19 at noon. The Warriors will return home for the final time this regular season, April 25-27, with a four-game series against Cal State Monterey Bay. The series will begin on Friday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. on Blue Chip Broadcasting Sponsorship Night. The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader on Saturday, April 26. They will conclude the series with a noon starting game on Senior Day. Prior to the game at approximately 11:20 a.m., Stan State will recognize its 20 seniors.

Twilight yesterday with a throw of 53.7.75 (16.35m), which places him sixth on the Warrior top ten list. He also won the hammer at the Leopard Invite today with a throw of 180-1 (50.98m). Hernandez is third in the CCAA and sixth on the Warrior top ten list. He is third in the CCAA in the hammer.
