For the Third Straight Year, Stan State’s Chris Chomyn Earns All-Tournament Team Honors; Warriors Place Sixth at CCAA Championship
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--- For the third straight year, Stan State's Chris Chomyn earned CCAA Championships All-Tournament honors by placing in the top five at the CCAA Men's Golf Championships presented by Under Armour this week at the par-72 Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Calif. Chomyn shot a three-round score of one-over par 217 to finish in a tie for fourth place with Sonoma State's Ivan Sablan. As a team, the Warriors shot a 38-over par 902 (303-302-297) to finish in sixth place.
WARRIORS: Chris Chomyn the led the way for Stan State with his one-over par 217 (72-73-72) to finish in a tie for fourth place. Finishing nine strokes behind Chomyn was Ricky Sullivan with his ten-over par 226 (75-79-72) to finish in a tie for 21st place. Finishing in a tie for 28th place was the Warrior duo of Nate Jetton and Jack Peters each with a fifteen-over par 231. Chase Bird shot a twenty-over par 236 to finish in 35th place.
TEAMS: Cal State East Bay captured the CCAA Men's Golf Team Championships with its three-round score of 16-over par 880 (291-302-287). Finishing four strokes behind the Pioneers were the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters with a 20-over par 884 (298-295-295). Sonoma State was third with its 885 (301-304-280) followed by Cal State San Bernardino in fourth place with an 888 (300-295-293) and Chico State in fifth place with a 889 (295-299-295). Rounding out the field were Stan State with a 902 (303-302-297), Cal State San Marcos with a 922 (311-307-304), and Cal State Dominguez Hills with ah 938 (325-318-295).
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: This year's CCAA Individual champion was Cal State East Bay's Cooper Grohart with his one-under par 215 (72-73-70). Finishing in a tie for second place were Cal State East Bay's Oscar Blomqvist and Cal State San Bernardino's Justin Kim each with an even par 216. Blomqvist shot rounds of 71, 75, and 69 while Kim shot rounds of 74, 72, and 70. Rounding out the CCAA Championship All-Tournament Team were Stan State's Chris Chomyn and Sonoma State's Ivan Sablan each with a one-over par 217. Chomyn shot rounds of 72, 73, and 72 while Sablan had rounds of 76, 75, and 66.
BIRDIES/PARS: During the three-day championships, Chris Chomyn either birdies or parred on 49 of the 54 holes including ten birdies. Ricky Sullivan recorded 32 pars and nine birdies has he either parred or birdied on 41 of the tournament's holes. Right behind Sullivan were Nate Jetton and Jack Peters who parred or birdied 39 of the tournaments' 54 holes. Chase Bird had 27 pars and five birdies during the tournament's three rounds.
UP NEXT: The NCAA Division II West/South Central Regionals are set for May 8-10 at the par-72 Victoria Club in Riverside, Calif. In the latest NCAA Division II West Regional rankings, Stan State was sixth. The top ten teams from the West Region and the top ten teams from the South Central will compete in the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Golf West/South Central Regional.
REGIONAL RANKINGS: In the last NCAA Division II West Regional rankings that were released on April 11, seven of the eight CCAA teams were ranked in the top 11 in 1.) Cal State East Bay; 2.) Cal State Monterey Bay; 4.) Chico State; 5.) Sonoma State; 6.) Stan State; 7.) Cal State San Marcos; and 8.) Cal State San Bernardino. The top ten teams in each of the nation's eight regions will receive a berth to the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. Cal State East bay earned the automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships by capturing the CCAA championships this week. The official tournament field of the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships will be announced on www.ncaa.com this Friday, April 25.
