Stan State’s Lauderdale Qualifies for Nationals in 400-Meter Dash; Wallace Breaks School Record in 200 at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational
BERKELEY, Calif.-- In the final day of their busy weekend in the Bay Area, Stan State's duo of Trent Lauderdale and Rionna Wallace highlighted Saturday for the Warriors at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. Lauderdale ran a fourth-place time of 47.53 to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 400-meter dash. He is now fourth on Stan State's Top Ten list. Wallace broke the school record in the 200 with a time of fourth-place time of 24.41 one day after she tied the record of 24.49.
ANOTHER QUALIFYING TIME: Trent Lauderdale qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in his second event heading into the Warriors off week. He ran a 47.53 in the 400-meter dash to finish fourth at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. With that time, Lauderdale qualifies for nationals and is 29th in the nation in NCAA Division II. He is also first on the CCAA performance list and is fourth on Stan State's Top Ten list.
Lauderdale is currently second in the nation with his time of 51.21 in the 400 hurdles, which he ran at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, April 3. This year's Nationals are set for May 22-24, in Pueblo, Colo., at The ThunderBowl on the campus of Colorado State Pueblo.
SCHOOL RECORD: Rionna Wallace broke the school record in the 200-meter dash with her fourth-place time of 24.41 today at the Brutus Hamilton. Yesterday at the Stanford Invitational. Wallace tied the school record with her time of 24.49 which Jocelyn Venable (2005) for the school record. She is now fourth on the CCAA performance list.
NINTH: Devin Hernandez moved into ninth place on the Warrior top ten list in the shot put. He had a fifth-place throw of 52-1 ¾ (15.89m) in the field at the Hamilton.
FOURTEEN: Stan State had 14 top ten placers today at the Brutus Hamilton. Rionna Wallace placed fourth in the 200 (24.41) and sixth in the 100 (12.05). Devin Hernandez had two top ten throws today in the shot put (fifth, 52-1 ¾, 15.89m) and the hammer (173-8, 52.93). Alexis Nino finished eighth in the shot put (40-6 ¼, 12.35m) and tenth in the hammer (163-5, 49.81m). Mila Real finished sixth in the 400-meter run (57.06)) while Mason Phillips was sixth in the shot put (48-9, 14.86m). Trent Lauderdale finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (47.53). Finishing tenth in the triple jump was Eligah Lawrence (43-7 ¼, 13.29m).
The women's 4x400 relay team of Rionna Wallace, Mila Real, Bri Aguirre, and Shaylynn Wynn was fourth with their time of 4:02.31. Stan State men's 4x400 relay team of Levi Gardner, Jemar Armstrong, Jaheim Williams, and Trent Lauderdale were second with their time of 3:15.72. The Warrior team of Timothy Miles, Dillon Carolina, Jaevin Sawyer, and Eris Hutchins finished fifth with their time of 3:24.33.
UP NEXT: The Warriors will be off this upcoming week. They will return to competition in Southern California, April 17-19, in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. Stan State will compete in the Cal State Los Angeles Invite, LaVerne Invite, and the Bryan Clay Invite. After those three invitationals, Stan State will return to the valley for their invitational of the regular season to compete in the Fresno State Invite, April 26-27 in Clovis, Calif., at the Veterans Memorial Stadium. The next weekend, Stan State will host the 2025 CCAA Track & Field Championships, May 1-3, at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.
