Baseball Splits Series with Chico State to End 2025
CHICO, Calif.--- Stan State defeated the Chico State Wildcats this afternoon 9-8 in the series finale of the four-game series between the two teams in Chico, Calif. With the victory, the Warriors split the series with the hosts. The Warriors used a five-run seventh to key their 9-8 regular season finale victory.
Stan State took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Luke Davies had a one-out single and scored on a two-out single by Flavio Perez. Chico State (29-20, 22-18 CCAA) had a two-run third inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Wildcats increased their lead to 3-1 on a two-out run scoring single by Thade Miller.
The Warriors retook the lead, 4-3, with a three-run fifth. Jackson Brooks had a lead-off double and advanced to third on a sacrifice fielder's choice bunt by Ryan Leonesio. Robert Valdivia's single drove in Brooks to cut the deficit to 3-2. Luke Davies walked to load the bases with no outs. Leonesio scored when Alex Solis grounded into a double play. With two outs, Perez drove in Valdivia with the Warriors' fourth run of the game.
Chico State retook the lead, 5-4, on a two-out two-run single by Daniel Viera in the bottom of the fifth. The hosts added three mor runs in the sixth to take an 8-4.
Stan State (21-27, 16-22 CCAA) retook the lead for good with a five-run seventh. Robert Valdivia had a lead-off walk and went to third on a one-out double by Solis. Valdivia scored on a single by Perez. Solis scored on a single by Jonluke Goldman. With two outs, Danny Murphy drew a walk to load the bases. Jackson Brooks drove in Perez, Goldman, and Murphy with a bases clearing double to give Stan State a 9-8 lead.
Noah Chelberg (2-1) retired the Wildcats in order in the bottom of the ninth as Stan State took the series finale 9-8 to split the weekend series.
CHELBERG: Noah Chelberg pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up one hit and striking out six for his second victory of the season.
14 HITS: Stan State scored nine runs on 14 hits and had four players with two or more hits. Flavio Perez went three-for-five with three runs batted in and a run scored. Jackson Brooks was two-for-four with three runs batted in and a run scored. Jonluke Goldman was two-for-four with a run batted in and a run scored. Jacob Baker had two hits for Stan State.
MOVIN' ON UP: With his double, Alex Solis finished his career as Stan State's all-time leader with 54 hits and 305 total bases. He finished with 202 hits, which places him third at Stan State in career hits. Flavio Perez is sixth with 173 hits and fifth with 100 runs batted in during his career at Stan State. Ryan Leonesio finished his career fourth with 22 sacrifice hits.
SERIES SPLIT: Stan State had its fourth series split of the season and first on the road by going 2-2 at Chico State this weekend. The three other splits were at home against then No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Los Angeles, and Sonoma State.

These three were Reyna Dismukes (triple jump), Devin Hernandez (shot put), and Alexis Nino (shot put). All three placed third in their respective events. For the second straight day, Rionna Wallace broke a Stan State record this time with her time of 24.03 in the 200-meter dash. Alfred Nunes moved into eighth place on Stan State's top ten list in the decathlon with 6024 points.

Rocco Gurrola pitched a complete game victory to improve to 5-4 on the season. Jonluke Goldman went three-for-four with what proved to be the game-winning two-out two-run single. Jackson Brooks scored twice, and Ryan Leonesio drove in two runs in the opener for the guests.

Rionna Wallace and Mila Real were two of ten Warriors to advance to Saturday's finals. Wallace broke the school record with her of 11.76 in the 100-meter dash preliminaries. Real broke the school record and is now 11th in the nation with her time of 1:00.00 in the 400-hurdles.

Alex Solis was two-for-three with a solo home run to lead the way for the Warriors. Solis now has 200 hits for his career, which places him third on the Warrior top ten list. His 15th career home run places him tied for ninth at Stan State.
