Men’s Golf Looking for Seventh CCAA Title This Week in Santa Barbara

TURLOCK, Calif.---   Stan State is looking for its seventh California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships when the Warriors travel to the par-72 Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Calif., this Monday-Wednesday, April 21-23.  The CCAA Championships is a 54-tournament with 18 holes being played each day. 

LAST TIME ON THE COURSE:  Stan State finished in fifth place at the 15-team 50th Annual Hanny Stanislaus Invitational this past Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15.  The Warriors shot a two-under par 862 (288-276-298).  The 54-hole tournament was played at the Merced Golf & Country Club in Merced, Calif., and the Turlock Golf & Country Club in Turlock, Calif.  Jack Peters finished in a tie for seventh place with a five-under par 211 (68-67-76) to lead the way for the Warriors.  Ricky Sullivan tied for 25th (216, even par), Chris Chomyn tied for 32nd (218, two-over par 218), Nate Jetton tied for 39th (220, four-over par), and Chase Bird tied for 44th place (221, five-over par).

SIXTH:  Stan State was sixth in the third NCAA Division II West Region rankings that were released on April 11.  The final region poll will be released this Friday, April 25.  Seven of the eight men's golf teams in the CCAA are ranked in the top eleven in 1.) Cal State East Bay; 2.) Cal State Monterey Bay; 4.) Chico State; 5.) Sonoma State; 6.) Stan State; 7.) Cal State San Marcos; and 8.) Cal State San Bernardino.  The top ten teams in the last poll that will be
released April 25 will receive a berth to the 2025 NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional. 

SCOREBOARD sponsored by clippd RANKINGS: In the latest SCOREBOARD rankings powered by clippd individual rankings that were leased on April 16, the Warriors are ranked sixth in the West Region and 44th in the nation.  Chris Chomyn is ranked seventh in the West Region and 103rd in the nation. 

REPRESENTING THE WARRIORS:  At the CCAA Men's Golf Championships, the five golfers to represent the Warriors will be 1.) Jack Peters; 2.) Ricky Sullivan; 3.) Chris Chomyn; 4.) Nate Jetton; and 5.) Chase Bird.    

LAST YEAR'S CCAA'S:  The Warriors finished in fifth place at the 2024 CCAA Championships at the par-72 Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club in Santa Rosa, Calif.  Stan State shot a three-round score of seven-under par 857.  Cal State Monterey Bay captured the championships with a 16-under par 848.  Chris Chomyn led the way for Stan State with his five-under par 211 to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place.  For the second year in a row, Chomyn was named to the All-Tournament Team. 

FLOCOLLEGE/CCAA MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK:  Jack Peters and Chris Chomyn were named the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Golfers of the Week, the week of February 17-26.  The Warrior duo tied for first place in leading the Warriors to a second-place finish at the Battle in the Desert each with a nine-under par 207.  Peters captured the one-hole playoff hole. Stan State shot a school record 26-under par 838 to finish in second place. 

EIGHT TEAMS:  The eight teams that will be golfing in this year's CCAA Championships will be Stan State, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State East Bay, Sonoma State, Cal State San Marcos, Chico State, Cal State San Bernardino, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. 

TEE TIMES:  Stan State will be paired with golfers from Cal State San Marcos, Cal State San Bernardino, and Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The Warriors' Chase Bird will tee-off at 8:00 a.m. followed by Nate Jetton at 8:11 a.m.  Chris Chomyn will begin his round at 8:22 a.m. followed Ricky Sullivan at 8:33 a.m. and Jack Peters at 8:44 a.m.

NCAA'S: The 2024-25 NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional will take place May 8-10 at the Victoria Club in Riverside, Calif.  The top ten teams from each of the West and South Central Regions will receive berths to the Super Regional.  To advance to the 2024-25 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships, May 19-25, at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., a team must finish as one of the top six teams in the Super Regional.  The top two individuals from non-qualifying teams will also qualify to advance to Florida.  The official field of the 2024-25 NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional and the complete 2024-25 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships will be announced on www.ncaa.com on Friday, April 25. 

CONFERENCES THAT MAKE UP THE TWO REGIONS:  The West Region is made up of teams from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), and PacWest Conferences.  The South Central Region is made up of the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).  The winners of the CCAA, PacWest, Lone Star, and RMAC tournaments will receive their conference's automatic berth to the NCAA's.
