Warriors Place 24th at NCAA DII National Championship
SACRAMENTO, Calif.---The Stan State women's cross country team traveled for the NCAA Division II National Championships at Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California. The team placed 24th out of 34 finishing teams on a very muddy course, with the area receiving two inches of rain in the 24 hours leading up to the race.
WOMEN: Annie Wild crossed the line first for Stan State in 67th place with a time of 21:47.5, followed by Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva at 22:11.7 in 103rd. Crystal Hernandez was next in 149th coming in at 22:36.5 with Tessa Vasquez (188th, 23:08.8), Nina Furtado (206th, 23:33), and Kayden Legan (254th, 25:34) finishing the race next.
TEAM: Adams State was the NCAA Division II Women's Champion with 61 points, though Grand Valley State's Lauren Kiley was the first-place finisher at 20:28.5. Elena Carey finished in seventh place with a time of 20:43.2 to cross the line first for Adams State, with their top five runners all completing the race in the top 20. Rounding out the top five teams were West Texas A&M (127 points), CSU-Pueblo (160 points), Grand Valley State (179 points), and Colorado School of Mines (238 points).
BRIGHT FUTURE: Stan State finished in 24th with 620 points as the youngest team in the field, a remarkable showing to highlight the talent of the program. The Warriors have been to nationals three times in the past four years as well, with a program best 12th place in 2021.
