TURLOCK, Calif.---Riding a ten-match unbeaten streak, the No. 3-ranked Stanislaus State men's soccer team heads into the final weekend of the regular season with two pivotal California Collegiate Athletic Association matchups — at Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m., and back home for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. against Cal State San Marcos.
The Warriors are one of only ten unbeaten teams remaining in NCAA Division II men's soccer and are tied for first nationally in winning percentage (.905) with Young Harris College, which is also 9-0-1.
Weekend Recap
The Warriors continued their remarkable run last weekend, defeating a pair of nationally ranked opponents on the road. Stanislaus State edged No. 24 Cal State San Bernardino 3-2 before earning a hard-fought 1-0 shutout at No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona. The two victories extended the Warriors' winning streak to three and improved their record against ranked teams to a perfect 4-0 this season, which includes earlier triumphs over then-No. 21 Cal State LA and No. 19 Menlo.
With the back-to-back road wins, Stanislaus State improved to 9-0-1 overall and remains unbeaten in CCAA play at 3-0-1.
Warriors Update
The Warriors continue to be one of the nation's most balanced and efficient squads. Through ten matches, Stan State has outscored its opponents 23-7, averaging 2.3 goals per game while allowing only 0.7. The defensive unit, anchored by senior goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez (.829 save percentage, 0.70 GAA), has recorded five shutouts this fall.
Offensively, senior Gerardo Flores and junior Emmanuel Duran lead the team with six goals each, while senior Samuel Villanueva (7 assists) and junior Adrian Yepez (5 assists) continue to drive the attack with creativity and precision. Stan State has been perfect away from home, boasting a 5-0-0 road record, and is unbeaten in its last ten overall.
NCAA Leaders
Nationally, the Warriors rank among the top programs in multiple NCAA Division II statistical categories. Stanislaus State sits sixth in assists per game, eighth in goal differential, 12th in points per game, tied for second in save percentage, 15th in scoring offense and shutout percentage, 12th in goals-against average, seventh in total assists, 20th in total goals, 13th in total points, and tied for first in winning percentage (.905).
Individually, Samuel Villanueva ranks fourth nationally in both assists per game and total assists. Adrian Yepez is 19th in total assists and 23rd in assists per game. Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez ranks 15th in save percentage, 18th in shutouts, and 20th in goals-against average. Forward Gerardo Flores is eighth in the nation in game-winning goals.
CCAA Leaders
Within the CCAA, the Warriors have several players near the top of the conference leaderboards. Gerardo Flores ranks sixth in goals, first in game-winning goals, and first in total points. Emmanuel Duran is tied for first in goals, tied for seventh in game-winning goals, and tied for third in points. Samuel Villanueva is tied for first in assists, while Adrian Yepez is tied for fourth in assists and tied for seventh in game-winning goals. Kenneth Solares ranks tied for second in game-winners, and both Sebastian Carbajal and Alexis Cervantes are tied for first in the conference in game-winning goals.
Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez ranks second in the CCAA in goals-against average, save percentage, and shutouts, while sitting third in total saves.
Warrior Record Book
Several Warriors are climbing the program's career and single-season record books in the Division II era. Samuel Villanueva is tied for second all-time in career assists with 11, trailing only Nolan Holdridge's program-best 15. In the single-season charts, Villanueva sits third with seven assists, chasing Gerardo Cazares' record of 10. In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has moved into fifth place with nine career shutouts and is fourth with 15 wins.
Also in single-season marks, Adrian Yepez is tied for sixth with five assists, and Ruiz-Hernandez is tied for tenth with four shutouts. Additionally, Stanislaus State's current 9-0-1 record marks the best start to a season in program history during the Division II era.
Scouting Cal Poly Humboldt
The Lumberjacks (2-7-1, 0-3-0 CCAA) have endured a rebuilding season and enter the weekend on a four-match skid, including a 6-1 loss at Cal State East Bay last week. Humboldt has scored eight goals in ten matches while conceding 26. Nathan Murff leads the team with three goals, and goalkeeper Edwin Monterrosa has posted a .778 save percentage and two shutouts.
Series History: Stanislaus State leads the all-time series 14-5-3 since 2007. The last two meetings have ended in scoreless ties, with the Warriors' most recent win over Humboldt coming in a 3-2 road victory in Arcata.
Scouting Cal State San Marcos
The Cougars (3-4-3, 2-1-0 CCAA) visit Turlock on Sunday after a strong start to conference play, highlighted by a 5-3 win over Cal State East Bay. Efren Nunez Dominguez leads San Marcos with five goals and two game-winners, while David Ruiz has added four goals and an assist. Goalkeeper Tony Flores carries a 1.57 goals-against average and a .682 save percentage.
Series History: Cal State San Marcos holds a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series since 2015. Last season, the Warriors edged the Cougars 1-0 in San Marcos as Adrian Yepez scored the game-winner with three minutes left in regulation.
