Stanislaus State Cross Country Set for UC Riverside Invitational Saturday
TURLOCK, Calif. – After capturing the Kim Duyst Twilight and finishing seventh at their last meet two weeks ago, the 16th-ranked Stanislaus State women's team and the Warrior men return to competition this Saturday, Sept. 27, at the UC Riverside Invitational on the AgOps Course.
The Invitational will feature a strong field, including NCAA Division I programs UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Long Beach State, San Diego State, UCLA, Fresno State, UNLV, Cal State Fullerton, and Cal State Northridge. The Warriors will also line up against NCAA Division II teams Cal State San Marcos, Concordia-Irvine, Fresno Pacific, Biola, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. The meet begins at 7:15 a.m. with the women's 6K invitational, followed at 7:50 a.m. by the men's 8K invitational. The morning concludes with the women's 5K open at 8:25 a.m. and the men's 8K open at 8:55 a.m.
Competing for the Warrior women will be 13 runners: Nina Furtado, Bela Moreno, Crystal Hernandez, Stevie Holguin, Valorie Jimenez, Makenzie Kordic, Noheli Ron, Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva, Bianca Scott, Izzy Soto, Tessa Vasquez, Aubrey Webb, and Annie Wild.
Representing the Warrior men will be Quentin Clarke, Austin Hein, Jonathan Hupman, Patricio Kearney, Jackson Oliveira, Mason Oliveira, Osvaldo Segoviano, Evan Silva, and Tanner Gerhart.
Women's Last Time on the Course
The No. 16 Stanislaus State women's team opened their season in impressive fashion at the Kim Duyst Twilight Invitational, winning the team title in the 6K race with a total time of 1:47:25 (averaging 21:29 per scorer). They edged Chico State by just five points—no small feat as the Wildcats were picked preseason No. 1 in the CCAA coaches' poll. All five Warrior scorers placed in the top 30: junior Annie Wild (3rd, 21:02.7), Jacqueline Sanchez-Silva (10th), Bela Moreno (11th), and freshmen Izzy Soto (27th) and Stevie Holguin (29th). The Warriors also outran four NCAA Division I programs—Sacramento State, UC Davis, Nevada, and California—underscoring their strength beyond Division II competition.
For her standout performance, Annie Wild was named the FloCollege Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Men's Last Time on the Course
The Warrior men placed seventh overall in a competitive 8K field. Jackson Oliveira paced Stan State with a 10th-place finish in 23:54.7, while Mason Oliveira followed in 16th at 24:21.7. Freshman Jonathan Hupman contributed a 49th-place finish, with Quentin Clarke (82nd) and Patricio Kearney (94th) rounding out the scoring five. Stan State finished as the second-highest Division II team in the meet, totaling 184 points and averaging 25:02.3.
Regional Rankings
The Stanislaus State women enter the weekend as the No. 1 team in the NCAA Division II West Region rankings, holding their top spot from last week. The Warriors are followed by fellow CCAA programs Chico State (No. 2), Cal Poly Pomona (No. 3), and Cal State San Marcos (No. 8), along with Cal State East Bay rounding out the top 10. Other top West Region contenders include Point Loma Nazarene (No. 4), Biola (No. 5), Western Washington (No. 6), Simon Fraser (No. 7), and CUI (No. 9).

Following this weekend's UC Riverside Invitational, the Warriors will head to San Francisco for the SF State Invitational on October 10 at Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadows. That meet will serve as their final tune-up before the CCAA Championships on October 24 at Bidwell Park in Chico, Calif.
