Warriors to Face Cal State East Bay in Four-Game Series in Hayward
HAYWARD, Calif.--- Stan State will travel to the Bay Area for a four-game series this Thursday-Saturday, April 17-19 against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers in Hayward, Calif. The series opener is set for this Thursday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. The teams will continue the series with a noon starting doubleheader this Friday, April 18. They will conclude the series this Saturday, April 19 at noon.
ANOTHER SERIES SPLIT: The Warriors had their third conference split this past weekend going 2-2 against Sonoma State. They lost the opener 10-7, but came back on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep in thanks to walk-off victories 10-9 (10) and 4-3 (7). Sonoma State won the series finale 14-1. The Warriors hit .321 as a team with four players hitting over .400 in Jackson Brooks (.600), Jonluke Goldman (.444), Robert Valdivia (.438), and Luke Davies (.438). Brooks had six hits, drove in four runs, and stole two bases. Davies scored twelve total bases, four runs, had two doubles, drove in two runs, and had his fourth home run of the season. Cameron Rosen and Austin Balentine recorded the two Warrior victories. Balentine had eight strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work. Rosen struck out three, walked no one, and gave up just two hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
WARRIORS: Stan State enters the weekend with a 14-22 overall record and a 9-17 CCAA record. They are hitting .272 as a team with a .383 slugging percentage, .363 on-base percentage, and .980 fielding percentage. Stan State is 37-for-44 in stolen base attempts. The Warriors team earned run average is 6.30 with 212 strikeouts.
HITTERS: Nine Warriors are hitting over .275 in Jacob Reyes (.385), Ryan Leonesio (.327), Jackson Brooks (.313), Luke Davies (.300), Arthur Navarette Jr. (.299), Robert Valdivia (.298), Jonluke Goldman (.286), and Flavio Perez (.280). Perez leads Stan State with his 38 hits and 12 doubles. Alex Solis has scored a team leading 21 runs while Valdivia has a team high two triples. Davies leads the team with his four home runs and .571 slugging percentage. Leonesio has a team leading .433 on-base percentage. Jacob Baker has stolen a team high eight bases followed by Danny Murphy with seven.
PITCHERS: Austin Balentine leads the team with his 4-3 record with Zach Geiss right behind him at 3-1. Caleb Bertoncini and Rocco Gurrola each have two wins this season. Gurrola leads the team with his 35 strikeouts and 13 walks in 58.1 innings. Cameron Rosen has 30 strikeouts and eight walks in 35.1 innings followed by Balentine with 31 strikeouts and 17 walks in 44.1 innings. Patrick Sweeney has 12 strikeouts and just five walks in 30 innings.
WALK-OFFS: Stan State has five walk-off victories in the final three weeks of the regular season. The first came in the Warriors 3-2 victory in ten innings of Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 16. Alex Solis had a lead-off double and was pinch ran for by Jackson Brooks who then went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Flavio Perez. Brooks scored on an Arthur Navarette Jr. infield single to second base. Their second walk-off win was in the night cap of Saturday's February 22 doubleheader with No. 20 CSUSB. With one out, Perez and Luke Davies had back-to-back singles. Danny Murphy pinch ran for Perez and scored on a Jonluke Goldman single up the middle. On March 7 in the Warriors' 5-4 eleven-inning victory over Cal State Los Angeles, Navarette hit a walk-off single that brought in Jacob Reyes with the game-winning run in the eleventh inning. The Warriors had two walk-off victories in their doubleheader sweep of Sonoma State on April 12. Robert Valdivia scored the game-winning run in their 10-9 ten inning victory over the Seawolves when Navarette reached on an error. In the night cap on Saturday, Navarette drove in Valdivia on a walk-off single in the 4-3 victory.
RECORD BOOKS: Alex Solis is the Warriors' career record holder with his 49 doubles. He is third in hits (187), sixth in runs scored (100), and eleventh in runs batted in (88). Robert Valdivia is sixth with his 152 hits while Flavio Perez is tied for ninth with his 15 home runs. Ryan Leonesio and Jacob Baker are tied for ninth each with 34 stolen bases. Austin Balentine (14-7) is three victories from moving into the top ten in wins.
NATIONALLY: Stan State is fourth in the nation with its .980 fielding percentage. The Warriors are 18th with their .890 doubles plays per game average and 19th with their 29 sacrifice bunts.
MISCELLANEOUS: Arthur Navarette Jr. has 13 multiple-hit games including one five-hit game. Robert Valdivia has 11 multiple-hit games with nine two-hit games. Ryan Leonesio and Alexis Solis each have ten multiple-hit games. Leonesio has one five-hit game. Jacob Baker leads the team with six multiple-RBI games with Leonesio and Valdivia each recording five. Valdivia is currently on an eight-game hitting and reached base safely streak. Navarette is on a nine-base reached base safely streak.
CCAA STATS: Stan State is tied for fourth with eight triples, sixth with 38 stolen bases, and first in fielding percentage (.980). Jacob Baker is tied for eighth with eight stolen bases. Robert Valdivia is second with six sacrifice bunts and Ryan Leonesio is tied for fourth with five sacrifice bunts. Austin Balentine is tied for seventh with four victories.
CAL STATE EAST BAY: The Pioneers enter this weekend with a 16-22 overall record and a 12-16 in the CCAA after splitting with Cal State San Marcos on the road. They are hitting .292 as a team with a .405 slugging percentage, and a .958 fielding percentage. Their team earned run average is 5.75. Aidan Morton has a team high .407 batting average, 12 doubles, .481 on-base percentage and .637 slugging percentage. Luke Brown has a team leading six home runs and driven in a team leading 38 runs. Dominick Najar has stolen a team high 15 bases and scored a team leading 27 runs. Max Gonzales has a team best 6-2 record with a team low 1.99 earned run average. Gabe Tanner leads the team with his 61 strikeouts. Hunter Timothy leads CSUEB with his three saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Pioneers 42-26 Including taking three out of four games last year in Turlock, Calif. The take the first game 15-2, lost the second 5-2, win the third 3-1, and the series finale 11-10 in eleven. The last time they faced each other in Hayward, the two teams split the series in 2023.

Wild ran a time of 2:08.96 to improve her qualifying time in the 800-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational today. She is now 14th in the nation, second in the CCAA, and second on the Warriors' top ten list. Oliveira ran a 14:15.54 this morning in the 5,000-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The freshman runner is now 25th in the nation, second in the CCAA, and second on the Warriors' top ten list. Devin Hernandez captured the shot put at the Cal State L.A. Twilight yesterday with a throw of 53.7.75 (16.35m), which places him sixth on the Warrior top ten list. He also won the hammer at the Leopard Invite today with a throw of 180-1 (50.98m). Hernandez is third in the CCAA and sixth on the Warrior top ten list. He is third in the CCAA in the hammer.
- Baseball Pounds Out 21 hits and Score 16 Runs to Take Series Opener 16-8Stan State had six players with multiple-hit games to key its 16-8 series opener 16-8 victory at Cal State East Bay. The Warriors scored 15 of their 16 runs in the first five innings to key its win over the Pioneers. Flavio Perez had a five-hit game while Alex Solis drove in five runs including four on a grand slam home run. Danny Murphy also had five runs batted in for the victors. Quinn Oliver recorded the win in the start for the guests.
- No. 14 Azusa Pacifc Gets the Better of Stan StateStan State played in the quarterfinals of the PacWest Championship Tournament facing Azusa Pacific. The Warriors fell to the Cougars 4-0.
