Stan State Men’s Soccer Ranked No. 14 Nationally, Third in West Region by United Soccer Coaches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Under the direction of head coach John Powell, Stanislaus State is ranked No. 14 nationally in the first United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll of the season, released this morning. The Warriors also earned a No. 3 ranking in the West Region.

Stan State is off to a strong 2-0 start following a successful opening weekend at home, defeating Seattle Pacific 2-1 and Western Washington 4-1.

The Warriors are one of three teams from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) ranked in the national top 25. Lynn University holds the No. 1 spot in the country, followed by Cal State Los Angeles at No. 2, Cal State San Bernardino at No. 8, and Stanislaus State at No. 14.

In the West Region rankings, Stan State is one of four CCAA teams in the top 10, joining Cal State LA (1st), Cal State San Bernardino (2nd), and UC Merced (5th). The West Region includes NCAA Division II institutions from the CCAA, Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), and PacWest conferences.

The Warriors scored six goals over their opening two matches. Emmanuel Duran netted two goals, while Sebastian Carbajal, Alexis Cervantes, Gerardo Flores, and Kenneth Solares each added one. Stan State also tallied six assists, led by Samuel Villanueva with three. Cervantes, Flores, and Angel Ruiz-Hernandez each contributed one assist.

Defensively, the Warriors were anchored by goalkeeper Ruiz-Hernandez, who recorded a 1.00 goals-against average, making five saves for a .714 save percentage.

Stanislaus State heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend for a pair of road games. The Warriors will face Simon Fraser in Burnaby, B.C., on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:00 p.m., followed by a matchup with Saint Martin's in Lacey, Wash., on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m. They return home to host Menlo College on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
