Stan State Honors Seniors During Hard-Fought Final Home Game with Otters

TURLOCK, Calif.---  In their final home game of the 2025 regular season, Stan State lost a tight 5-2 CCAA game with the visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.  Prior to the game, the Warriors recognized their 19 seniors in Tyler Van Dyk, Jacob Baker, Ryan Leonesio, Caleb Bertoncini, Jonluke Goldman, Jackson Brooks, Patrick Sweeney, Luke Davies, Josh Ochoa, Noah Chelberg, Alex Solis, Flavio Perez, JD Madrigal, Danny Murphy, LaKeal Morris, Greyson Gregory, Quinn Oliver, Reid Rasmussen, and Robert Valdivia in a ceremony on the diamond.

For the first time this season, Stan State (19-25, 14-20 CCAA) took the early lead with a two-run second inning.  Danny Murphy and Jackson Brooks each were back-to-back hit by pitches with one out to place Warriors on first and second in the second inning.  Ryan Leonesio reached on an Otter error to load the bases.  With two outs, Luke Davies drove home Murphy and Brooks with a single to center field to give the hosts the early 2-0 lead.

The game remained that way until the Otter fourth.  Cole Murchison drew a one-out walk and went to third on a two-out double by Dominic Felice.  Noah Zertuche tied the game at 2-2 with a two-out two-run double to right center for CSUMB. 

Max Farfans's one-out solo home run in the top of the sixth increased Cal State Monterey Bay's lead to 3-2. 

Cal State Monterey Bay (30-15, 23-13 CCAA) took a 5-2 lead in the top of the ninth on a two-run home run by Zertuche.  Dylan Gardner recorded his first save of the season by retiring the Warriors in order in the bottom of the night as CSUMB took the series finale, 5-2.

BERTONCINI/ROSEN: Caleb Bertoncini (2-2) took the loss in the start for Stan State.  He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and three runs while striking out four and walking four.  Cameron Rosen pitched the final 3.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits and two runs, while striking out one.

MOVIN' ON UP: With his four at bats today, Alex Solis holds the school record with 694 at bats in the D2ERA of Warrior baseball.  Robert Valdivia has 172 hits in career hits which is fifth on the Warrior top ten list and is three from moving past Colton Beatty into fourth place.  Jacob Baker is in seventh place with 37 career steals after his eleventh solen base of the season.  Ryan Leonesio has 36 stolen bases in his career after stealing his seventh of the season.  Leonesio is tied for eighth with Skippy Ferreira.

FINAL FOUR-GAME SERIES:  Stan State will travel to Chico, Calif., for its final four games of the regular season against Chico State this Thursday-Saturday, May 1-3.  The series will begin this Thursday, May 1 under the lights for a 6:00 p.m. scheduled game.  The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader this Friday, May 2.  The series finale is set for this Saturday, May 3 at noon.
