Volleyball Takes Part in the NCAA DII West Regional

TURLOCK, Calif.--- #24 Stan State volleyball continues their postseason in the NCAA DII Volleyball West Regionals in Pomona, Calif. at the Kellogg Arena. The Warriors, entering as the sixth seed, will face the third seed #4 Chaminade on Thursday, December 5th at 4:30 p.m. in their first NCAA Tournament appearance.

STAN STATE'S REGULAR SEASON IN REVIEW: Stan State headed into the postseason with 19-7 overall record and 12-6 in the CCAA. The Warriors swept their opponents in 11 out of their 19 wins and only went to five sets on four occasions, three of which Stan State emerged victorious. Before the CCAA Tournament, the Warriors had struggled against San Francisco State and Cal State Los Angeles, dropping two matches to the Gators in straight sets and pulling off a tough five-set win against the Golden Eagles. Stan State's wins in the CCAA semifinal and final were true upsets, taking the momentum of finishing the regular season with four-straight wins into a dominant post-season run.

NATIONAL STATISTICS: With the volleyball postseason under way, Stan State is ranked 14th in the nation with 2.55 blocks per set. The Warriors' 268 blocks rank 17th in the country. Alex Byrd's 1.27 blocks per set earns her 22nd in the nation.

ALL-CCAA: Six Warriors were named for All-CCAA honors. Gabby Rawson received the Libero of the Year award while also being named to the First Team All-CCAA. Malia Tanksley earned Freshman of the Year. Alex Byrd was named to the Second Team All-CCAA. Haley Burdo, Makenna Carrillo, Autumn Kirby, and Malia Tanksley were all honorable mentions.

ALL-TOURNAMENT: Five members of Stan State were named to the All-Tournament team for the CCAA Championships. Haley Burdo, Alex Byrd, Gabby Rawson, Isabella Saucedo, and Ellison Weaver earned the honors, with Weaver also being named tournament MVP.

YEAR OF FIRSTS, MOSTS, AND HIGHEST: The 2024 Warriors created several program firsts. This season was the first time Stan State had been mentioned in the NCAA regional poll. Receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll was a first as well, quickly followed by being ranked by the AVCA in the top 25 for the first time. Malia Tanksley is the first Warrior to earn Freshman of the Year, while Gabby Rawson is the first to earn Libero of the Year twice. While Stan State's appearance in the CCAA Tournament was not their first time, making it to the finals was the furthest they had even gotten, making their win the first time Stan State had captured the Championship title. The Warriors' appearance in the NCAA Tournament will also be a first for the program.

Stan State also earned the most All-Conference recognitions in program history. Their CCAA Tournament run earned them the most All-Tournament honors ever, and the first time a Stan State player was awarded tournament MVP.

The Warriors achieved the highest conference winning percentage in program history as well, combining it with the highest ever winning percentage overall.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Five Warriors have recorded double-doubles this season. Ellison Weaver recorded four, notching 15 in her four-year career at Stan State. Burdo earned seven this season with 36 total in her career. Isabella Saucedo has recorded two of her own, with three total in her two seasons at Stan State. Gabby Rawson has also produced three double-doubles this season and four in her four-year career with the Warriors. Shaelyn Pruiett has five double-doubles in her first season after transferring to Stan State.

ALL-TIME CAREER LEADERBOARD: Four Warriors continue to move up on the all-time career highs list. Ellison Weaver has captured the sixth spot in kills with 825. Gabby Rawson is the leader in digs with 1,602. Alex Byrd has made it in two categories: third in solo blocks with 83 and first in total blocks with 356. Haley Burdo has made her mark in three categories: eighth digs with 892, third service aces with 147, and first in assists with 2,214.

SILVERSWORDS IN REVIEW: #4 Chaminade is 27-4 overall and finished the regular season 20-0 in conference play. It is worth noting that the CCAA's own Cal Poly Pomona and San Francisco State contributed two of Chaminade's four losses this season. Graduate student Letizia Cammillucci is in the top five in all five major statistical categories for Chaminade and is currently leading in service aces with 58. Cammillucci is second to middle blocker Anna Stucchi in kills with 323 with Stucchi just ahead at 326. Grace Talpash is the primary setter for the Silverswords with 1,087 assists so far on the year. Libero Nanna Inoue leads in digs with 365 while Cammillucci follows with 277 recorded. Middle blocker Lizanyela Lopez leads the team in blocks with 86.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Chaminade claimed the two games they have played against the Warriors with the last match taking place on October 9th, 2023, where Stan State fell 3-1.
