No. 3 Warriors Blank No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona for Third Straight Win Over Ranked Foe
POMONA, Calif.--- The No. 3 Warriors remained unbeaten and continued their dominant defensive form Saturday afternoon, taking down No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona, 1-0, at Kellogg Stadium. With the win, Stanislaus State improved to 9-0-1 overall — its most victories in a season since 2015 — while earning its fifth shutout and third consecutive victory over a nationally ranked opponent.
First Half
In a tight, physical opening 45 minutes, both teams traded early chances but neither could find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez made three first-half saves to keep the match level, while the Warrior defense stood strong against 14 total Pomona shots on the day.
Second Half
The breakthrough came in the 58th minute when Sebastian Carbajal finished a perfect sequence from Gerardo Flores and Adrian Yepez to give the Warriors the lead. From there, the back line and Ruiz-Hernandez held firm, closing out the match for another shutout — his fifth of the season.
