Student Affairs Night and Turlock Latin Chamber of Commerce Day Highlights Warriors’ Weekend Series with Sonoma State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will host Sonoma State in a four-game CCAA series this Friday-Sunday, April 11-13 at Warrior Field.  The series opener is set for this Friday, April 11 at 6:00 p.m. on Student Affairs Night.  The two teams will play a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader this Saturday, April 12.  They will play the series finale this Sunday, April 13 with a noon starting game on Turlock Late Chamber of Commerce Day.  Stan State's Indoor Track & Field National Champion, Annie Wild, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Friday's game around 5:55 p.m.  Warrior Two-Time All-CCAA honoree, Andrew Stueve'12, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to game one of this Saturday's doubleheader around 12:55 p.m.

LAST TIME: The Warriors went 1-3 in their four-game series at Cal Poly Pomona this past weekend in Pomona.  They lost the series opener 7-2, before splitting Saturday's doubleheader losing the first game 3-1 but taking the night cap 4-2.  Cal Poly Pomona took the series finale 13-2. Austin Balentine pitched a complete game in the Warriors' 4-2 game three victory on Saturday.  He struck out five and walked two, while giving up seven hits and two runs to improve to 3-3.  Robert Valdivia hit .357 while Arthur Navarette Jr. went five-for-15 for a .333 batting average.  Each Warrior had five hits apiece.  Ryan Leonesio and Jonluke Goldman each drove in two runs while Leonesio scored two runs.  LaKeal Morris pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, while giving up a hit, striking out two and walking three.    

WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  Stan State enters this weekend with a .266 batting average, .383 slugging percentage, and .981 fielding percentage.  The Warriors are 33 for 39 in their stolen base attempts.  They have just 23 errors in 32 games. 

HITTERS:  Seven Warriors are hitting .275 or higher in Ryan Leonesio (.333), Jacob Reyes (.333), Arthur Navarette Jr. (.298), Flavio Perez (.297), Jacob Baker (.286), Robert Valdivia (.278), and Alex Solis (.277).  Navarette has driven in a team high 19 runs.  Alex Solis leads the Warriors with his 19 runs scored.  Flavio Perez has a team leading 12 doubles, .461 slugging percentage, and 38 hits.  He is tied with Navarette, Solis, and Luke Davies for the team lead each with three home runs.  Valdivia has a team leading two triples.  Baker leads the team with his eight stolen bases. Leonesio has a team high .446 on-base percentage.  The duo each lead the Warriors with five sacrifice hits. 

PITCHERS: Noah Chelberg leads the way for Stan State with his 3.10 earned run average.  Rocco Gurrola has struck out a team high 30 batters.  Austin Balentine and Zach Geiss each have three victories to lead the Warriors.  Chelberg and Cameron Rosen each have a save.

WALK-OFFS: Stan State has three walk-off victories in its first 32 games. The first came in the Warriors 3-2 victory in ten innings of Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 16.  Alex Solis had a lead-off double and was pinch ran for by Jackson Brooks who then went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Flavio Perez.  Brooks scored on an Arthur Navarette Jr. infield single to second base.  Their second walk-off win was in the night cap of Saturday's February 22 doubleheader with No. 20 CSUSB.  With one out, Perez and Luke Davies had back-to-back singles.  Danny Murphy pinch ran for Perez and scored on a Jonluke Goldman single up the middle.  Their latest one came in the Warriors' 5-4 eleven-inning victory over Cal State Los Angeles.  Navarette hit a walk-off single that brought in Jacob Reyes with the game-winning run in the eleventh inning. 

SIXTH IN THE NATION:  As a team, the Warriors are sixth in the nation with their .981 fielding percentage.  They are 15th with their 27 sacrifice hits. 

CCAA:  As a team, Stan State is tied for first in the CCAA with its .981 fielding percentage.  The Warriors are third in triples (seven), second in sacrifice hits (27), and fifth in stolen bases (33).  Robert Valdivia is tied for second in sacrifice hits with Ryan Leonesio each with five.  Valdivia is tied for third with his two triples.  Flavio Perez is tied for third with his 12 doubles while Alex Solis' 10 doubles place him tied for 10th.     

FLOCOLLEGE/CCAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK:  On February 10 as announced by the office of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Stan State's Rocco Gurrola was named the FloCollege/CCAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week.  Gurrola struck out seven batters and walked no one in the Warriors' 10-2 victory over Saint Martin's on February 8. 

ALL-TIME LEADER:  Alex Solis is the Warriors' all-time leader with his 49 doubles in his career.  He is third with his 182 hits.  Solis is seventh with his 98 runs scored and is tied for sixth place with Kyle Loretelli'09.  The senior outfielder is three runs batted in from moving into tenth. 

BAKER TIED FOR NINTH:  Jacob Baker is in a four-way tie for ninth place with his 34 career stolen bases.  He is three stolen bases from moving into seventh place on the Stan State top ten list.

PEREZ TIED FOR NINTH:  Flavio Perez's 15 career home runs places him in a four-way tie for ninth place on Stan State's top ten home run list.  Perez is tied for sixth with 37 career doubles.  He is also five runs batted in from moving into a tie for ninth place.

ALSO MOVING CLOSER:  Three Warriors in Austin Balentine and Ryan Leonesio.  Balentine is four victories away from moving into the top ten in the wins list as he is now 13-7 in his career.  With his 33 stolen bases, Leonesio is one stolen base from moving into the top ten in stolen bases. 

MULTIPLE:  Arthur Navarette Jr. has 12 multiple-hit games followed by Flavio Perez, Robert Valdivia, Ryan Leonesio, and Alex Solis each with nine and Jacob Baker with eight.  Baker has a team leading five multiple-RBI games followed by Valdivia, Perez, and Leonesio each with four. 

HITTING STREAK:  Robert Valdivia has a nine-game reached base safely streak with a four-game hitting streak.  Jacob Baker has a three-game hitting streak while he and Navarette each have a four-game reached base safely streak.

SEAWOLVES:  After dropping three out of four games to Cal State San Marcos at home, Sonoma State is 9-27 overall and 6-21 in the CCAA. The Seawolves are hitting .263 as a team with a .373 slugging and a .351 on-base percentage.  They are 53 for 72 in stolen base attempts.  Sonoma has a team 6.59 earned run average.  Evan Merz leads the way with his .366 batting average, seven home runs, 28 runs batted in, 45 hits, 23 runs scored, .577 slugging percentage, and .426 on-base percentage.  Ben Saitz leads the way with his 10 doubles and Aryonis Harrison has stolen a team high 17 bases. Hawk Hill, Colton Wuefling, and Michael Panichi each lead the team with their two victories.  Hill has a team low 2.61 earned run average in 12 appearances. Panichi has struck out a team high 41 batters. 

ALL-TIME SERIES: Since 2001, Sonoma State leads the all-time series with the Warriors 77-29.  The two teams split the series last year in Rohnert Park.  Stan State swept the doubleheader 13-3 and 7-4 while the Seawolves on the series opener 13-3 and series finale 4-2.  Sonoma State swept the series in Turlock in 2023.  The Warriors last defeated the Seawolves in Turlock, 8-5, in 2020.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's series finale with Sonoma State, the Warriors will travel to Hayward, Calif., for a four-game series with Cal State East Bay, April 18-20.  They will return home April 25-27 for their final home stand of the 2025 season when the Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay.  Prior the series finale on Sunday, April 27, Stan State will recognize its 20 seniors.
