TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State split this afternoon's doubleheader with the visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Otters losing the opener 14-8 but taking the night cap 9-6.  Flavio Perez went a combined three-for-eight with five runs batted in, scoring three runs, and had two doubles.  Alex Solis was five-for-eight in the two games, driving in a run, scoring four times, and hitting a double. Jonluke Goldman had four runs batted in the night cap.  Rocco Gurrola picked up his fourth victory with Cameron Rosen recording his second save of the season.

GAME ONE:  Cal State Monterey Bay (29-15, 22-13 CCAA) took advantage of two Warrior errors in its first at bat and took a 6-0 early lead in the opener today.  The Otters scored six runs on five hits and two Warrior errors. 
Stan State came right back with two runs in its half of the first inning to cut the deficit to 6-2. Luke Davies had a one-out single and went to third on an Alex Solis double.  Davies scored on a ground out to short by Flavio Perez.  Solis scored on a two-out single by Arthur Navarette Jr.

The game remained 6-2 Otters until the top of the fourth.  The Otters scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Noah Zertuche's two-out two-run single was the big hit in the inning for the visitors as they increased their lead to 11-2.

The Warriors scored their third run in the bottom of the fourth.  Jacob Baker, Danny Murphy, and Jackson Brooks had back-to-back-to-back one-out singles.  Baker scored on out a ground out by Ryan Leonesio to make it 11-3 Otters.
CSUMB added an insurance run in their half of the sixth on a run scoring single by Zertuche which brought in Dominic Felice to increase its lead to 12-3.

Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors scored five runs on four hits in their half of the sixth to cut the Otter lead to 12-8.  Brooks had a one-out triple.  Leonesio was hit by a pitch to place runners on the corners with no outs.  Robert Valdivia drove home Brooks with a single to right center.  With two outs, Solis drew a walk to load the bases.  Leonesio and Valdivia scored on a two-out two-run single by Perez.  Navarette walked to place runners on first and second with two outs.    Baker drove home Solis and Perez with a double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 12-8.

The guests added a run in the seventh and in the ninth to increase their lead to 14-8.  With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Valdivia singled and went to second on a single by Davies.  Otter reliever, Drew Aguilar, induced the final Warrior to ground out to shortstop to preserve the 14-8 victory.

MULTIPLE-HIT GAMES: Six Warriors had multiple-hit games led Robert Valdivia four-for-six game while driving in one run and scoring a run.  Jackson Brooks had three hits including a triple while scoring a run.  Alex Solis had three hits including his 52^nd career double and scored twice.  Arthur Navarette Jr. and Jacob Baker each had two hits.  Baker drove in two runs and scoring a run.  Navarette drove in a run and had a double.

PITCHERS:  Austin Balentine (5-4) took the loss allowing just three earned runs while striking out four and walking one in three innings.  Zach Geiss pitched three innings, striking out two and walking two, while giving up just one earned run.  Greyson Gregory, Noah Chelberg, and Reid Rasmussen pitched a combined three innings, giving up three hits, two runs while striking out two and walking three.

GAME TWO:  The Otters took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Stan State (19-24, 14-19 CCAA) took a 2-1 lead with a two-run fifth inning.  Alex Solis had a two-out single and scored on a double by Flavio Perez.  Perez scored the game's second run of the game on a Jonluke Goldman single to center field.

CSUMB came right back with a two-run second to take a 3-2 lead on a one-out two-run home run by Noah Zertuche. 

The Warriors retook the lead, 4-3, with a two-run third inning.  Solis had a one-out single and scored on Perez's second double of the game to tie the game at 3-3.  The Warriors took the 4-3 lead when Arthur Navarette Jr. reached on a two-out Otter error which scored Perez.

Once again, the Otters tied the game in the next half-inning.  Omar Gastelum had a one-out double and scored on a single by Max Farfan to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth.
Stan State retook the lead for good with a three-run fourth inning.  Ryan Leonesio had a lead-off single, went to second on a wild pitch.  Robert Valdivia walked and then Luke Davies had a bunt single to load the bases.  Still with no outs, Leonesio scored on a ground out by Solis to give the hosts a 5-4 lead.  Perez was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out.  Valdivia scored when Goldman drew a walk.  Davies scored when Navarette was hit by a pitch to increase Stan State's lead to 7-4.

The Otters didn't go away as they cut the Warrior lead to 7-6 with a two-run fifth.  The Warriors increased their lead to 9-6 with a two-run fifth.  Leonesio and Valdivia had back-to-back lead-off singles.  They advanced a base on a Davies' sacrifice hit.  Solis was intentionally walked to load the bases with one out.  With two outs, Goldman singled home Leonesio and Valdivia to give Stan State a 9-6 lead heading into the final inning and a half.

CSUMB had a chance to cut into the Warrior lead again in its half of the sixth.  Farfan had a lead-off single and went to second on an infield single by Noah Zertuche.  Jimmy Garcia reached on a fielder's choice which Zertuche was out at second to place runners on the corners.  Rocco Gurrola (4-4) induced the next Otter to ground out to a 6-4-3 inning ending double play to preserve the 9-6 Warrior lead.

The guests had another chance in their last at bat.  With two outs, Javier Felix singled but was stranded there when Cameron Rosen struck out the final Otter batter as Stan State took the night cap 9-6.

GURROLA/ROSEN: Rocco Gurrola pitched six innings, giving up eight hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out three and walking four.  Cameron Rosen recorded his second save by pitching a scoreless seventh.  Rosen gave up one hit and struck out one.

12 HITS:  Stan State had twelve hits in the night cap.  Ryan Leonesio went three-for-three while scoring twice.  Jonluke Goldman was two-for-three with four runs batted in.  Flavio Perez and Alex Solis went a combined four-for-six with three runs batted in, two runs scored, and two doubles. 

MOVIN' ON UP: Alex Solis now has a Stan State record 52 career doubles.  He is also third with 198 hits, fourth with 106 runs scored, ninth with 96 runs batted in, tied for first with 296 total bases, and third with 617 at bats.  Flavio Perez is fourth with 41 doubles, tied for sixth with 97 runs batted in, fifth with 260 total bases.  Robert Valdivia his fifth with 171 hits while Ryan Leonesio is tenth with 18 hit by pitches.  Austin Balentine is tenth with 140 strikeouts.
