Stan State to Begin Five-Game Road Trip with Two CCAA Games in Southern California

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After defeating Cal State Monterey Bay 90-79 in both teams' California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener this Saturday, the Stan State Warriors will begin a five-game road trip this weekend with two CCAA games in Southern California.  The Warriors will be in Los Angeles this Thursday, Dec. 5 for a 7:30 p.m. scheduled tip-off with Cal State Los Angeles.  They will end their weekend in Carson, Calif., for a 3:00 p.m. scheduled tip-off with Cal State Dominguez Hills. 

LAST WEEK:  The Warriors went 1-1 over the Thanksgiving Holiday to improve to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the CCAA.  They began the week with a 66-62 loss to Academy of Art in an important NCAA Division II West Regional match-up.  Jeremiah Jones and Jonathan Tchengang each had 15 points to lead the Warriors and William Chavarin added 12 points.  Stan State held the Urban Knights to a season low 66 points.  Stan State finished the week with a 90-79 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay in its CCAA opener.  Jones had a game high 28 points and four assists.  Daniel Ameyaw had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Jason Cibull chipped in 19 points off the bench and Jason Zimmer added 11 points. 

WARRIORS:  Entering its game on Thursday at Cal State Los Angeles, Stan State is 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the CCAA after going 1-1 this past weekend.  The Warriors are averaging 77.0 points per game while giving up 73.7 points per game.  They are shooting 45.7% from the field while forcing 14.9 turnovers per game.  Jeremiah Jones leads the way with his 19.6 scoring average, 25 assists, and 78.9% shooting from the line. Daniel Ameyaw is second on the team with his 10.7 scoring average and leads the Warriors with his 8.0 rebounding average.  Jason Zimmer leads Stan State with his 67.9% shooting from the field, 63.6% shooting from three-point land, and 14 three-point field goals made.  Jonathan Tchengang has recorded a team leading 16 steals with Fabian Reichstadt blocking a team high four shots.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double and fourth of his career with a 16-point, 11-rebound performance in the Warriors' victory over CSUMB on Nov. 30.  He was seven-for-12 from the field and went two-for-four from the line. Ameyaw blocked two shots and added a steal in 31 minutes.  For the season, Ameyaw is averaging 10.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 42% from the field with three blocked shots.

CAREER NIGHTS:  Two Warriors had career games in William Chavarin and Jason Cibull this past week.  Chavarin scored a career high 12 points in the Warriors' game against Academy of Art on Nov. 27.  He was four-from-eight from the field including three-of-seven from three-point land in his first start against the Urban Knights.  Cibull scored a season high 19 points in the Warriors' victory over CSUMB on Nov. 30.  He went seven-for-ten from the field including a perfect four-for-four from three-point land in 17:48 off the bench. 

SIX OUT OF SEVEN:  Out of Stan State's first seven games this season, six of them the Warriors have recorded single digits in assists including just six in their victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday.  They have a +1.5 assist/turnover ratio this season while forcing 14.9 turnovers per game and only turning the ball over 8.0 turnovers per game.  Six Warriors have dished out more assists than turning the ball over led by Jeremiah Jones (25 assists, 10 turnovers) and followed by Cameron Walker (16 assists, five turnovers).  Jason Cibull has eleven assists this season with just one turnover and Jordan Smith has four assists and two turnovers while Willia Chavarin has seven assists with five turnovers.

NATIONALLY RANKED:  Stan State is sixth in the nation with its 8.0 turnovers per game average.  The Warriors are 17th with their +7.8 turnover margin and 29th with their +1.52 assist/turnover ratio.  Jeremiah Jones has made 58 field goals this season which is the 17th most in the nation in NCAA Division II. 

CCAA STATS:  In the recent CCAA statistical report, the Warriors are leading the conference with their +1.52 assist/turnover ratio.  They are second in three-point field goal percentage (36.9%) and turnover margin (6.86) while they are tied for third in three-point field goals made/game (7.4).  Stan State is fourth in scoring offense (77.0 ppg) and sixth in scoring margin (+3.3), field goal percentage (45.7%), field goal percentage defense (44.5%), rebounding (33.4 rebounds/game), and offensive rebounding (11.4).

Four Warriors in Daniel Ameyaw, Jeremiah Jones, Jonathan Tchengang, and Jason Zimmer are in the top ten in eight individual statistical categories.  Jones is first in assist/turnover ratio (+2.5), second in scoring (19.5 ppg), fourth in field goal percentage (55.2%), and sixth in assists/game (3.6).  Zimmer is first in three-point field goal percentage (63.6%) and three-point field goals/game (2.0).  Ameyaw is second in rebounding (8.0 rebounds/game) and Tchengang is eighth in steals (2.3/game).

COACH TREVOR:  With the Warriors' victory over CSU Monterey Bay this past Saturday, Coach Paul Trevor has recorded 76 victories during his time on the sidelines at Stan State.  Those 76 victories place him fourth on the Warrior coaching wins list.  For his 14-year career at Stan State and San Francisco State is 183-179.

GOLDEN EAGLES IN REVIEW:  Cal State Los Angeles is 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA after losing 83-70 to Cal State Dominguez Hills this Saturday at home.  The Golden Eagles are averaging 73.8 points per game while giving up 73.0 points per game.  The duo of Corey Cofield II (18.3 ppg) and Shane Bell (13.3 ppg) lead them in scoring.  Cofield id shooting a team high 55.1% from the field, 81.6% from the line while leading the team with his 7.7 rebounds per game average and 20 steals. Jaden Lazo has made a team high 10 three-point field goals and Connor Scales is shooting a team high 61.5% from three-point land.  Bell has dished out a team high 23 assists and Kyjuan Cannady has blocked a team leading nine shots.

CAL STATE L.A. ADVANTAGE:  Since 2007, Cal State Los Angeles leads the all-time series with the Warriors 22-11 including the last three games in a row.  The Golden Eagles defeated Stan State 88-83 in Turlock on Feb. 1, 2024, with Jeremiah Jones scoring 12 points and Mahda Fallay adding 11 points for the Warriors.  They also defeated Stan State 95-83 in Los Angeles on Dec. 9, 2023, despite Daniel Ameyaw's 14 points and 14 rebounds.  Stan State's last victory over the Golden Eagles was Dec. 3, 2022, in Turlock, 73-69.  The Warriors' last win in Los Angeles was a 62-60 victory Feb. 19, 2022.

TOROS IN REVIEW:  Heading into their game against Cal State Monterey Bay this Thursday, Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros are 4-3 overall and 1-0 after defeating Cal State Los Angeles 83-70 this past weekend.  They are averaging 80.6 points per game while giving up 76.3 points per game.  Jeremy Dent-Smit h leads the way with his 17.6 points per game average, 18 threes made, 78.1% shooting from the line, and is tied with Jordan Hilstock each with nine steals.  Adam Afifi is averaging 14.2 points per game followed by David Cheatom at 12.1 points per game and Alex Garcia at 10.6 points per game.  Cheatom leads the team with his 53.3% shooting from the field and Garcia is shooting a team high 45.8% from three-point land.  Afifi leads the team with his 7.3 rebounding average and is tied with Garcia with six blocked shots.  Garcia and DJ Guest each have dished out a team high 18 assists. 

CSUDH ADVANTAGE:  The Toros lead the all-time with Stan State 29-23 since 1980.  They have won three of the last five-games between the two teams.  CSUDH defeated Stan State 82-77 in Turlock Feb. 3, 2024.  Mahda Fallay and Jeremiah Jones each chipped in 15 points and Cam Walker added 12 points.  Stan State lost 65-63 to the Toros Dec. 7, 2023, in Carson.  The last Warrior win was Jan. 26, 2023, in Carson, 66-65 as Jones had 14 points for the victors.

UP NEXT:  After the Warriors' game in Carson this Saturday, Stan State will return to the court Wednesday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m., in San Francisco for an exhibition game with the University of San Francisco.  The Warriors will then travel to Seaside, Calif., for a 3:00 p.m. CCAA game with Cal State Monterey Bay on December 21.  They will finish out the calendar year the next afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. exhibition game at Sacramento State on December 22. Stan State will return home in the New Year on January 2 for a 7:30 p.m. CCAA game with Cal Poly Humboldt.
