This Week's Donna Pierce Warriors of the Week Are Christian Brenes and Annie Wild
The Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week weekly award has been named the Donna Pierce Warriors of the Week in memory of Pierce, who passed away on Sunday, September 7. A constant presence in Warrior Athletics, Donna was the University's first softball coach in 1976. She also volunteered for more than 30 years as a clock keeper and official scorekeeper at men's and women's basketball games. She was inducted into the Stan State Warrior Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.

This week's Donna Pierce Warriors of the Week are men's soccer defender Christian Brenes and women's cross country runner Annie Wild.

#2 Christian BrenesChristian Brenes made an immediate impact for 14th-ranked Stan State, scoring his first two goals as a Warrior while playing a key role in back-to-back road shutouts over Simon Fraser (3-0) and Saint Martin's (4-0). In Thursday's win over the Red Leafs, the Warrior backline held SFU to just 10 shots, including only two on frame, before Brenes broke through late, cashing in on a turnover with less than seven minutes remaining. He struck again on Saturday, finishing a feed from Hugo Canedo in the 59th minute to help seal a dominant 4-0 victory. The defense was just as sharp, limiting the Saints to eight shots (five on goal) as Stan State improved to a perfect 4-0 start.

Annie Wild smiles for the camera.Annie Wild led the way for the 17th-ranked Warriors in their first-place team finish at the Kim Duyst Twilight on Saturday night, pacing the field in the women's 6K. She ran a third-place overall time of 21:02.7 and was the top NCAA Division II finisher in the race. The Ripon native finished ahead of runners from Cal-Berkeley, UC Davis, Sacramento State, and Nevada. Wild is carrying over her success from last spring's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where she earned All-American honors in the 800 meters, as well as her indoor national title in the mile. She earned All-Region honors in cross country in 2024 and led the Warriors to their second appearance in the NCAA DII National Championships in three years.
