Bascom Cards Top-20 Finish at WWU Invitational
BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Stanislaus State men's golf closed out the Western Washington University Invitational on Tuesday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club, finishing 13th in the 14-team field. Owen Bascom led the Warriors with his two-over 218 to finish in a four-way tie for 17th place.
The Warriors turned in rounds of 297–299–304 for a 54-hole total of 900 (+36). Bascom opened with a 69 (-3) on Monday and added rounds of 74 and 75 to pace Stan State's lineup. Over the three rounds, he tallied one eagle and seven birdies.
Chase Bird and Ricky Sullivan both tied for 54th at 227 (+11). Bird went 76–73–78 with one eagle and six birdies, while Sullivan carded 78–75–74 and recorded four birdies. Carson Diaz finished tied for 68th with a 230 (+14), highlighted by a team-best 10 birdies across his three rounds. Riley Kirk tied for 75th at 233 (+17) and posted six birdies during the tournament.
Simon Fraser captured the team title at 850 (-14), edging UBC Okanagan (853, -11) and host Western Washington (856, -8). Individually, four players shared medalist honors at 209 (-7): Denby Carswell of Simon Fraser, Ryan Vest of UBC Okanagan, Fisher Ransom of Vanguard, and Jacob Torres of Hawaii Hilo.
The Warriors continue their fall season this Monday–Tuesday, October 6–7, at the National Preview at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. They will finish out the fall season in Seaside, Calif., at the Otter Invite at the Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Course, Oct. 13–14.
