Warriors Split Road Doubleheader with Chico State
CHICO, Calif.--- Stan State split its road doubleheader with the Chico State Wildcats this afternoon took the night cap 4-3 but lost the opener 7-5. Rocco Gurrola pitched a complete game victory to improve to 5-4 on the season. Jonluke Goldman went three-for-four with what proved to be the game-winning two-out two-run single. Jackson Brooks scored twice, and Ryan Leonesio drove in two runs in the opener for the guests.
GAME ONE: Chico State (29-19, 23-17 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead with two runs in its first at bat in the bottom of the first inning. Stan State cut the deficit in half in the third. Jackson Brooks had a one-out single and stole third which he advanced to third on an errant throw. Brooks scored on a successful sacrifice bunt by Ryan Leonesio.
Stan State took a 4-2 lead with a three-run fifth inning. Arthur Navarette Jr. led off the inning reaching on an error. He went to second on a single by Jacob Baker. Danny Murphy reached on a fielder's choice which Navarette was out at third. Baker scored on a one-out single by Jackson Brooks. Murphy scored on another successful sacrifice bunt by Leonesio. Brooks scored on a ground out to first by Luke Davies to give Stan State a 4-2 lead.
The Warriors added another run int eh seventh. With one out, Leonesio singled and stole second. He scored on a two-out double by Alex Solis to increase Stan State's lead to 5-2.
The Wildcats cut the Warrior lead with a two-run seventh, 5-4. They took the 7-5 lead with a three run eighth inning.
Drake Richardson (3-0) retired the Warriors in order in the ninth as Chico State took the 7-5 comeback victory.
BROOKS: Jackson Brooks was two-for-four in the opener for Stan State. The senior outfielder scored twice and had drove in a run. Brooks also stole a base for the Warriors.
GAME TWO: Once again, Chico State took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Stan State (20-27, 15-22 CCAA) tied the game in its half of the second. Tyler Van Dyk had a one-out double and scored on a Jackson Brooks' sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied at 1-1 until the hosts took a 2-1 lead with a run in the sixth inning.
The Warriors retook the lead with a three-run seventh, 4-2. JD Madrigal was hit by a pitch to begin the seventh. He went to second on a bunt single by Brooks. With two outs, Luke Davies hit a run scoring single to tie the game at 2-2. Stan State took a 4-2 lead on a two-out two-run single by Jonluke Goldman.
Chico State made it interesting in the seventh. With two outs, Thade Miller hit a triple and scored on a double by Phoenix Casias to cut the Warrior lead to 4-3. Stan State starter, Rocco Gurrola, struck out the final Wildcat to preserve the 4-3 Warrior victory.
GURROLA: Rocco Gurrola (5-4) picked up the complete game victory. He struck out three and walked two in seven innings of work. The junior transfer gave up seven hits and three runs (two earned).
2/3: The two-three hitters for Stan State in Luke Davies and Jonluke Goldman went a combined five-for-eight with three runs batted in and a run scored. They each had a double.
MOVIN' ON UP: Alex Solis now has 53 doubles in his career which he holds the school record. He also is now third with 201 hits, first with 697 at bats, first with 303 total bases, and third with 107 runs scored to go with his 15 home
runs which ties him for ninth. Flavio Perez is sixth with 170 hits and fifth with 263 total bases. Robert Valdivia is fifth with 173 hits. Ryan Leonesio is tied for seventh with 37 stolen bases and tied for fourth with 21 sacrifice hits.
UP NEXT: Stan State will finish out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, May 3 with a noon starting series finale at Chico State.

These three were Reyna Dismukes (triple jump), Devin Hernandez (shot put), and Alexis Nino (shot put). All three placed third in their respective events. For the second straight day, Rionna Wallace broke a Stan State record this time with her time of 24.03 in the 200-meter dash. Alfred Nunes moved into eighth place on Stan State's top ten list in the decathlon with 6024 points.

Rionna Wallace and Mila Real were two of ten Warriors to advance to Saturday's finals. Wallace broke the school record with her of 11.76 in the 100-meter dash preliminaries. Real broke the school record and is now 11th in the nation with her time of 1:00.00 in the 400-hurdles.
- Baseball’s Late Inning Rally Falls Short in Series Opener at Chico StateStan State saw its late inning rally fall short this evening, 9-4, in its series opener at Chico State. Alex Solis was two-for-three with a solo home run to lead the way for the Warriors. Solis now has 200 hits for his career, which places him third on the Warrior top ten list. His 15th career home run places him tied for ninth at Stan State.
