Warriors Total Season-High 13 Aces in Four-Set Battle at Chico State

CHICO, Calif. — The Stan State volleyball team began its three-match road trip with a tough four-set loss to Chico State, 15-25, 25-14, 23-25, 20-25, Saturday night at Acker Gym. The result evens the season series between the two teams, after the Warriors swept the Wildcats earlier this fall in Turlock.

The Warriors delivered a season-high 13 service aces, led by Lauren Gonzales with a season-best five.

Shaelynn Pruiett notched 17 digs and 11 assists for her fifth double-double of the season, 11th of her career, and second straight match accomplishing the feat.

Set 1: Chico State (7-10, 3-7 CCAA) used a strong middle attack and a 10-2 mid-set run to take control early, pulling away for a 25-15 opening win — their third straight victory.

Set 2: The Warriors responded with their most dominant frame of the season, hitting .650 and firing four aces to win 25-14 — evening the match behind steady serving from Victoria Plumb and Gonzales.

Set 3: A back-and-forth battle featured seven ties, but Chico closed on a late push to take it 25-23 despite three Warrior aces in the frame.

Set 4: Stan State fought to stay within striking distance, with Pruiett and Freeman sparking a rally, but the Wildcats held on for the 25-20 match-clinching set.
