Nationally Ranked Warriors Close Non-Conference Slate with Two Key Regional Showdowns

TURLOCK, Calif. — Ranked No. 14 nationally, Stan State looks to keep its momentum rolling this week with two pivotal West Region matchups to close out its non-conference schedule. The Warriors will host Menlo College—receiving national votes in last week's United Soccer Coaches/NCAA Division II poll—on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7:00 p.m., before heading to San Rafael to face Dominican (Calif.) on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

Update on the Warriors
Stan State enters the week with a perfect 4-0 record. The Warriors have scored 13 goals in their first four matches, averaging 3.25 per game, while allowing just two goals (0.50 GAA). Emmanuel Duran leads the team with four goals, followed by Gerardo Flores with three goals and one assist. Samuel Villanueva paces the team with five assists. Kenneth Solares and Christian Brenes have each scored twice, with Flores and Solares netting two game-winners apiece. In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez owns a 0.51 GAA with an .846 save percentage and 11 total saves.

Recap of Trip to the Pacific Northwest
The Warriors posted back-to-back shutouts during their Pacific Northwest swing. They opened with a 3-0 victory over Simon Fraser on Thursday evening in Canada. Flores struck twice for a brace, while Brenes added his first career Warrior goal. Villanueva and Adrian Yepez collected assists. Stan State's defense allowed just two shots on goal, both stopped by Ruiz-Hernandez.

On Saturday, the Warriors earned a 4-0 win over Saint Martin's in Lacey, Wash. Duran recorded his second brace of the season, while Solares and Brenes added goals. Assists came from Sergio Garcia, David Lozano, Hugo Canedo, and Villanueva. Ruiz-Hernandez made four saves in 84 minutes, with Haidyn Stevens adding one stop in relief.

Scouting the Oaks (4-0)
Menlo College enters Thursday's match unbeaten at 4-0. The Oaks opened with a 1-0 win over Cal State East Bay, followed by victories over Cal Poly Humboldt (4-1), Jessup (4-3), and Cal State Monterey Bay (5-3). They are averaging 3.5 goals per game while conceding 1.75.

Goalkeeper Martin Fiala has a 1.75 GAA with 17 saves and a .708 save percentage. Offensively, Isak Faukefaer leads the way with five goals and one assist. David Stuber has scored two game-winners, while Hannes Herrstrom and Parker Faeth tallied the others. Guisseppe Sigala has a team-best four assists along with one goal.

Stan State leads the all-time series 4-1, with the last meeting in 2009 resulting in a 1-0 Warrior victory.

Scouting the Penguins (1-3)
Entering its Thursday match at Chico State, Dominican is 1-3. The Penguins opened with a 2-1 victory at Cal State Monterey Bay but have since dropped three straight against Cal State East Bay (3-2), MSU Denver (3-1), and Colorado State Pueblo (2-0).

Daniel Mathlin leads Dominican with two goals—including a game-winner—and one assist. Goalkeeper Colin Nestor holds a 2.25 GAA with 14 saves and a .609 save percentage. Dominican leads the all-time series 2-1, winning the most recent matchup 3-2 in 2022 at Turlock. The Warriors' lone win came in 2018 with a 2-0 neutral-site shutout in Arcata.

Last Time
The last time Stan State had a four-match winning streak was in 2021, when the Warriors won five straight from Sept. 12–25. The last 4-0 start came in 2015, when the Warriors opened with seven consecutive wins, finishing the season 15-4-3. That year, current head coach John Powell was an assistant under Dana Taylor. The Warriors fell 2-0 in the CCAA Championship to Cal Poly Pomona and were eliminated the following week in the NCAA Tournament after a 1-1 draw and penalty shootout loss (3-0) to Cal State Los Angeles.

After Saturday's contest in San Rafael, the Warriors will be off until October 3, when they begin CCAA play at home. Stan State will host Cal State East Bay on Oct. 3 at 4:30 p.m. before facing No. 2 Cal State Los Angeles on Oct. 5 at 11:30 a.m.
