Women’s Soccer Set for First Road Trip, Opening Saturday at Biola

TURLOCK, Calif. — After opening the season 2-1-1 at home, Stanislaus State will head out on its first road trip this Saturday, Sept. 20, with a noon matchup against Biola University in La Mirada, Calif. The Warriors wrapped up their four-game homestand last week with a 1-0-1 record.

Update on the Warriors
Stan State enters Saturday's match at Biola with a 2-1-1 record after starting the season with four straight home contests. The Warriors are averaging 0.75 goals per match while allowing just 0.50. Haylee Sousa leads the attack with two goals, including one game-winner. Aliah Avila has assisted on all three Warrior goals, while Jocelin Roa and Kellyann Rodriguez have also recorded assists. Grace Fabionar added the other goal for Stan State. In goal, Zara Mujica has been steady, posting a 0.50 goals against average through four matches, with a .875 save percentage, 14 saves, and three shutouts.

Recap of the Past Week at Home
The Warriors posted back-to-back shutouts last week to close out their homestand. On Wednesday evening, Stan State battled No. 14 Hawai'i Hilo to a scoreless draw, holding the Vulcans to just five shots, two on goal, and no corner kicks in 90 minutes. Mujica made two saves to earn her second shutout of the season. On Saturday night, the Warriors recorded their third shutout in a 1-0 victory over Menlo. Sousa netted the decisive goal in the 17th minute off a feed from Avila, while Mujica tallied five saves to preserve the win.

Scouting the Eagles (2-1-1)
Biola enters Thursday's match at Cal State Los Angeles with a 2-1-1 record. The Eagles opened the season with a 2-0 loss at Cal State San Marcos before rebounding with consecutive victories at San Francisco State (2-1) and Cal Poly Humboldt (1-0). They then played to a 2-2 draw at Cal State San Bernardino. Saturday marks Biola's home opener. Briley Phelps and Peyton Nelson pace the offense with two goals each, including a game-winner apiece. Marje Rechlin leads the team with three assists to go along with one goal. In goal, Autum Monty has logged 289 of the team's 360 minutes, posting a 1.25 goals against average with 14 saves and a .778 save percentage. Laura Brennan has played the remaining 71 minutes with a 1.26 goals against average.

Saturday afternoon's match will be the fourth all-time meeting between the two programs, with the series currently tied 1-1-1. Last season, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw in Turlock. Stan State defeated Biola 2-0 at home in 2022, while the Eagles earned a 1-0 win in La Mirada in 2021.

Looking Ahead
Following Saturday's contest in La Mirada, Stan State will wrap up its two-match road trip on Thursday, Sept. 25, against Westmont in Santa Barbara at 12:30 p.m. The Warriors will then return home Sunday, Sept. 28, at 6:00 p.m. to close out their non-conference schedule against UC Merced.
