Women’s Soccer Visits Humboldt Friday, Hosts Cal State San Marcos Sunday on Youth Soccer Day

TURLOCK, Calif. — The Stanislaus State women's soccer team (5-2-4, 1-1-2 CCAA) continues California Collegiate Athletic Association play this week, visiting Cal Poly Humboldt on Friday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m., before returning home to host Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 11:30 a.m. at Warrior Stadium on Youth Soccer Day.

Weekend Recap
The Stanislaus State women's soccer team earned two hard-fought draws on its Southern California trip, tying Cal State San Bernardino, 2-2, and Cal Poly Pomona, 1-1. Olivia Maragos continued her hot scoring form, netting both goals at CSUSB to bring her team-leading total to four on the season. Jocelin Roa added an assist in that match, while the defense held steady throughout the weekend. Goalkeeper Zara Mujica made eight saves across the two contests, including several key stops late against Pomona to preserve the point. Stan State finished the trip with three goals on 21 shots, while opponents managed the same total on 31 attempts. Cal Poly Pomona entered the weekend ranked No. 1 in the nation.

Warriors in Review
The women's soccer team is unbeaten in its last four matches (1-0-3) and remains one of the stingiest defensive units in the league, allowing just 0.91 goals per game while posting five shutouts behind Mujica, who owns a .811 save percentage with 43 saves.

Offensively, Maragos leads the team with four goals and nine points, followed by Haylee Sousa with two goals and two assists and Kellyann Rodriguez with a goal and two assists. Stan State averages 12.6 shots per game and has scored in nine of 11 contests while recording 12 team assists.

The Warriors have proven to be a tough opponent away from Turlock this season, going 1-0-3 on the road. Stan State has shown strong consistency and composure in hostile environments, scoring six goals and allowing just five in four road matches. All three road draws have come against quality opponents, including nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona and perennial contender Cal State San Bernardino.

Scouting Cal Poly Humboldt (4-3-4, 2-0-2 CCAA)
Cal Poly Humboldt has been one of the CCAA's hottest teams, going unbeaten in its last five matches and not conceding a goal in four straight. The Jacks have scored 10 goals this season while averaging 15.3 shots per game. Karsyn Ross and Alia Prentiss lead the attack with two goals apiece.

Goalkeepers Ariana Beddoes and Carson Thomson-Terrel have combined for a 0.55 goals-against average and a .854 save percentage, splitting minutes evenly and producing seven shutouts. Humboldt has also outshot opponents nearly two-to-one at home.

Stanislaus State leads the all-time series with Humboldt, 21-7-2, since 2002. The Warriors defeated the Jacks twice last season — 1-0 in the first round of the CCAA Tournament behind a goal from Makeila Yancey, and 3-0 during the regular season in Turlock with goals from Shauna Johnston, Aliah Avila, and Yancey. The Warriors last won in Arcata in 2019 by a 1-0 score.

Scouting Cal State San Marcos (4-2-4, 1-1-2 CCAA)
Cal State San Marcos has built its success on defense, having allowed only six goals through 10 matches for a 0.60 goals-against average. Goalkeeper Emma Calvillo has started every match and recorded six shutouts.

The Cougars are led in scoring by Addison Leite with three goals and Danielle Paulson with two. San Marcos has tallied 62 corner kicks, among the most in the CCAA.
Stanislaus State leads the all-time series with Cal State San Marcos, 7-2-1. The Warriors won last season's meeting in San Marcos, 2-1, as Jocelin Roa and Aliah Avila scored the goals.

CCAA Statistical Leaders
Several Stanislaus State women's soccer players rank among the CCAA's top performers this season. Olivia Maragos is tied for third in goals (4) and tied for ninth in game-winning goals (1). Aliah Avila and Kellyann Rodriguez are both tied for first in the conference with three assists. Haylee Sousa is tied for ninth in game-winning goals (1) and tied for seventh in assists (2). Jocelyn Figueroa and Grace Fabionar are also tied for ninth with one game-winner each.

In goal, Zara Mujica ranks tied for third in shutouts (3), second in total saves (43), eighth in goals-against average (0.909), and eighth in save percentage (.813).

Moving On Up
Aliah Avila continues to climb the Stanislaus State women's soccer career record books. She is tied for fifth all-time with seven game-winning goals and has recorded 13 career assists — just three shy of cracking the program's top 10 in that category.
