TURLOCK, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked Stanislaus State men's soccer team continues its best start in program history as it travels for two nationally ranked CCAA road tests this weekend. The Warriors head to No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m., before facing No. 11 Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m.
Recap: Warriors Open CCAA Play with Draw and Win at Home
Stanislaus State (7-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 CCAA) opened conference play at home last weekend, extending its unbeaten streak to eight matches. On Friday, the Warriors battled to a 2–2 draw against Cal State East Bay to move to 6-0-1.
The Pioneers struck first in the 21st minute, but Stan State equalized early in the second half when Sebastian Carbajal scored in the 50th minute off a setup from Jose Ponce. After East Bay regained the lead, the Warriors quickly responded again—this time with Samuel Villanueva converting in the 61st minute on an assist from Gerardo Flores to secure the draw. The Warriors outshot East Bay 22–11, and goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez finished with six saves in goal.
On Sunday, the Warriors followed with a hard-fought 2–1 win over No. 21 Cal State LA in front of an energized home crowd. After the Golden Eagles grabbed the lead just five minutes in, Gerardo Flores found the equalizer in the 15th minute on an assist from Landon Leal Ruiz. Stan State completed the comeback in the 72nd minute when Alexis Cervantes scored the game-winner off a cross from Ian Reis. The Warriors limited LA to just one shot on goal and none in the second half, improving to 7-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.
Update on the Warriors
Stanislaus State has outscored opponents 19–5 and posted four shutouts while averaging 2.38 goals per game and allowing just 0.63. Gerardo Flores and Emmanuel Duran share the team lead with five goals each, while Villanueva continues to spark the attack with a CCAA-best seven assists. Goalkeeper Ruiz-Hernandez has been outstanding between the posts, owning a 0.63 goals-against average and an .821 save percentage in over 700 minutes of play.

The Warriors are among the nation's elite statistically, ranking sixth in assists per game (2.50), 12th in points per game (7.25), 15th in scoring offense (2.38), eighth in goals-against average (0.625), 11th in shutout percentage (0.500), 17th in save percentage (.828), and ninth in total assists (20). Individually, Samuel Villanueva leads NCAA Division II in assists per game (1.00) and ranks third with seven total assists. Gerardo Flores stands fifth with three game-winning goals, while goalkeeper Angel Ruiz-Hernandez is 15th in goals-against average (0.630).

The Warriors also dominate the CCAA statistical leaderboard. Gerardo Flores is tied for first in goals (5), game-winning goals (3), and total points (12). Emmanuel Duran is tied for first in goals (5), tied for fourth in game-winning goals (1), and sits fourth in points (10). Adrian Yepez is tied for third in assists (3), while Kenneth Solares is tied for second in game-winning goals (2) and tied for fourth with one assist. In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez leads the CCAA in goals-against average (0.630), ranks second in save percentage (.821), is tied for second in shutouts (3), and stands fourth in total saves (23).
Top in the Nation in Win-Loss Percentage
Stanislaus State currently ranks No. 2 nationally in Division II in win-loss-tie percentage at .938 (7-0-1), trailing only Young Harris (.944). The Warriors are tied with Lynn and Palm Beach Atlantic for second nationally in the category, continuing their climb among the country's elite programs (stats.ncaa.org).
Scouting the Coyotes
Cal State San Bernardino (5-1-3, 0-0-1 CCAA) enters the weekend unbeaten in its last three outings, including a 2–2 tie at Cal State Monterey Bay last Sunday. The Coyotes feature a balanced attack led by Rafa Fonseca and Tony Negrete, who each have three goals. San Bernardino averages 1.78 goals per game and has allowed just 12 goals through nine matches.
Season Series vs. CSUSB
The Coyotes lead the all-time series 8–5–4. Last season, the Warriors earned a 1–0 win in Turlock, with Ruiz-Hernandez making three saves in the shutout. The teams tied 2–2 in San Bernardino in 2023 when Tyler Tipton scored the equalizer off a Villanueva assist with just 1:30 remaining. Stan State also recorded a 3–0 win in San Bernardino in 2022.
Scouting the Broncos
Cal Poly Pomona (5-1-3, 0-0-1 CCAA) presents another major test for the Warriors, boasting one of the CCAA's top offenses. The Broncos average 2.56 goals per game, led by Marvin Gamez (4 goals, 3 assists) and Aleksandar Somov (3 goals, 1 assist). Pomona's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Jack Chapman (1.11 GAA, .783 save pct.), has allowed just 14 goals in nine games.
Season Series vs. Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly Pomona leads the all-time series 13–3–3. The teams tied 1–1 last season in Turlock, with Adrian Yepez assisting on the Warriors' goal. Stanislaus State's last win in Pomona came in 2009, a 1–0 road victory.

Several Warriors are climbing the program's career and single season record books in the Division II era. Samuel Villanueva is tied for second all-time in career assists with 11, trailing only Nolan Holdridge's program-best 15. In the single-season charts, Villanueva sits third with seven assists, chasing Gerardo Cazares' record of 10. In goal, Angel Ruiz-Hernandez has moved into sixth place with eight career shutouts, while Jose Herrera holds the all-time mark
with 20.
