Warriors Complete First Two Rounds at National Preview
BOULDER CITY, Nev.--- The Stanislaus State men's golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of the National Preview in 17th place after 36 holes of play at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Warriors posted rounds of 298–295 for a 593 total (+17) in a field loaded with nationally ranked programs.
The event features 10 teams that appeared in the most recent Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll released September 19, including No. 3 Georgia Southwestern, No. 16 Cal State East Bay, No. 21 Chico State, No. 22 Missouri–St. Louis, No. 24 CSU Pueblo, and No. 25 Midwestern State.
Chico State leads the 17-team field at 547 (-29), followed by Midwestern State (558, -18) and Lynn (559, -17) at the top of the leaderboard.
Junior Riley Kirk paced the Warriors, sitting tied for 39th after rounds of 73–71 for an even-par 144. Chase Bird followed with a 147 (+3) after carding rounds of 74–73. Ricky Sullivan and Owen Bascom each shot 151 (+7) through two rounds, while Carson Diaz rounded out the lineup with a 158 (+14).
Chico State's Ben Mouser leads the individual standings at 10-under 134 after matching rounds of 67, followed by Midwestern State's Seth Bearden at 135 (-9). Three players—Peyton Hendricks of Cal State East Bay, Naoki Easterday of Chico State, and Joao Costa of Georgia Southwestern—are tied for third at 136 (-8).
The event, which doubles as the preview for this spring's NCAA Division II National Championships, has drawn many of the nation's top programs to the desert layout. The final round begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday, with Stanislaus State starting on holes 16–18 alongside golfers from Cal State East Bay, Flagler, Drury, Chico State, and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
After Tuesday's final round, Stan State will end its the fall season October 13-14 at the Otter Invitational at the Bayonet & Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside, Calif.
